Mate yes it is a good year...as far as MIM strats are concerned.

From 2006 onward there were upgrades with a bigger bridge block etc.

Better specs than prior.

I have a 2006 MIM 60th Anniversary and I think it is a great guitar. I love the way it plays and it is very nicely made.

The 60th has Tex-Mex pickups rather than the MIM Standard pickups, but other than that it is the same guitar. The 2006 upgrades with medium jumbo frets (which I like) and the bigger bridge block were good ones IMO.

Hi KC, I'm pretty sure my 06 just has the plain old MIM standard pups. Mine does have the little 60th pin on the headstock. Was yours a special run or deluxe model or something?

Yes, the 60th Anniversary Standard Stratocaster was a special run. I don't think they were especially limited, but are a specific model. They are Blizzard Pearl (otherwise unavailable on the MIM Strats) with Tex-Mex pickups and an engraved 60th Anniversary neck plate. Also came with a gig bag with a 60th Anniversary patch.

You can find some good pictures here:

http://www.elderly.com/fmic/items/FS60AS.htm

All of the 2006 Fenders have the "60th Anniversary" button on the back of the headstock.

Since you are buying for Elderly, they are a good solid company i would have 0 worries.

Nice color, but I think it needs a pearl white pick guard.

I just bought a used 2006 MIM 60th Anniv Fender about a month ago but I noticed theres nothing printed on the neck plate. Is this typical? Also, theres these 2 smaoll little hole like areas onderneath the pickguard. Is this typical as well?

The neck has the little pin on the back for the 60th and from what I can tell the neck looks real enough, but not sure bout the body. The pickups are the fender tex mex.

Yes, on some MIM models. Those depressions are datum markers that assist the CAD/CAM machines in routing and shaping the standard-grade body.

I own two '06 Strats -- one is a Robert Cray hardtail and the other is a Deluxe Powerhouse. Both are marked on the rear of the headstock with the 60th anniversary medallion and both are excellent examples of a quality instrument. There shouldn't be any concern with a guitar of this vintage.

" but I noticed theres nothing printed on the neck plate. "

From everything I read online I assumed there was atleast supposed to have something on the plate. This is my 1st MIM standard strat so I dont have much of a reference. Do standard strats have anything on the neck plate?

MIM standards don't have anything on the neckplate
