Hello!
So, i've recently put my hands on an all original, made in japan, vintage squier stratocaster. As mentioned in the title of my thread, serial number is E + 6 digit. It is totally unmodiffied, all original component (All of it is actually fender stock. From the bridge to the tuner). It is also equipped with an original fender floyd rose-style locking tremolo, wich i find interesting because i am yet to see another fender/squier strat that comes with one straight out of the box. I think that it is a '67 reissue model.

So my actual question would be What do you guy think of it? How does it compare to today's fender/squier strat? Am i right to think that the only difference between this guitar and a '84 fender is the name of the brand?

Regards,
Gabriel

ok, first, if its a floyd rose locking trem, its not a 67 reissue,
or it could be that the trem was added later. there are plenty of fenders with floyd style trems.
i would say that this guitar is antique not vintage.
post up some pics. the $@! made squire was a nice guitar in most cases IMHO.

i'll post some pics tomorrow as its getting quite late here :P
and, actually, i have no idea if its a '67 reissue or not. Somebody told me that it may be because of the way the neck was made. I'm new to fender/squier guitars so feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

What would be the differences between an antique and a vintage guitar?

pease excuse me for my manners.
welcome to the fender forums.

ok so heres my opinion of the differences,

Vintage refers to the age of an item, although not in years. For instance, you may have a piece of furniture or jewelry that is of 1920's vintage. In other words, from a particular time or era. Antique refers to the actual age of an item. Many furniture pieces are not considered antiques until they are 100 years old, although automobiles generally are considered antiques at 20 years old.

there are many opinions about this and several will say that im wrong about my own opinion.
the guitar should be a nice find for you. go have it set up and play the hell out of it, i would.

Ahh allright!
Thanks for the clarification! :D

do you have any idea of the actual value (not monetary) of such guitar? Am i right to think that it is utterly the same thing than a fender of the same year since the hardware is all fender and it even have a fender serial number?

I know that this info may sound really irrevelant, but i've searched quite a lot on the web and didnt find anything about it.

My point is that, at the moment, i really enjoy this guitar and most of the people that i see in everyday's life seems to be 'Brand snobs' who think and say that squier = crap, no matter the actual guitar.

It may sound immature but i'd really like to shut 'em up by showing them a squier strat that can outstand any MIM fender or even be at the same 'level' than an authentic '80 strat.

ok, ive had several MIJ strats and im sure many on here will agree, a MIJ start is every bit as good as a MIM. theres actuall MIJ collectors out there
now. i wish i still had mine. i might hunt one down early next yr.
yes theres gear snobs that will say MIJ stuff sucks. never mind them.
i guess i was a gear snob on pedals back in the day.
if they werent Boss i didnt give them a second thought.
i will tell you this, a pic is worth a thousand words. there some serious fender guitar heads on here. by pics alone they can tell you just about everything there is to know about that guitar.
thats probably what they are waiting on, the pics. nikininja will know more than you probably care to hear about it once he sees a pic lol.
good guy, listen to what he says.

I have that same model I bought new in 1987. I think it's a great guitar. A little on the heavy side, but has a nice vintage feel to it.

Haha, dont worry i will!
And as for the weight, mine is not really heavy. My previous guitar was a squier jagmaster (wich i still use) and it's about the same weight.

Different wood? Maybe they altered the construction from 1984 to 1987. I also think that they stopped from making them in japan by 1989.
