How many of you have tried this modification?

I changed the wiring to use the back tone pot for the bridge pickup and the forward tone pot for the neck and middle pickups. I really like being able to roll off just a little treble off the bridge pickup.

So. has anyone else tried this?

I'm in the process of finishing up a project which will accomplish exactly that. I'm waiting on the bridge pup to arrive today (hopefully)...a DiMarzio DP223 36th Aniv.

Being able to tame the bridge pup is always a nice touch.

+1

And it's cheaper than installing a base plate to a bridge pickup.

Hi jgauker,

On my Strats I like to have the bottom tone control on the bridge pickup, and have moved the tone control from mid to bridge many times (some Strats even come this way new). I like to leave the middle pickup without tone control, it sounds better that way to me. I don't like using the tone control for more than one pickup, to avoid those positions with two tone controls at the same time. :D

I haven't felt the need to use the tone control for the miidle and neck pup either, I leave it all the way up. I'm using the middle pup by itself more all the time. You just have to love the versatility of a Strat!

Yeah I agree, usually it's better for me to have the neck tone all of the way up. I have found that turning the neck tone all of the way down while using drive/distortion can produce some awesome smooth tones also.

Edit: Doh! I forgot to add my example. The lead on the video was with the pickup selector switch on 4 and the neck tone all of the way down, using the "68 Marshall Plexi Variac'd" setting on the POD. It still sounds surprisingly bright and clear. The playing isn't great, but I thought that the sound was kinda cool. :)

Done the mod today and finished testing it with Tex Mex PUs. The result is awesome. Now all my strats are wired the same:

- Tone 1: neck
- Tone 2: middle & bridge

That make the Strat bridge PU musical and usable...
