Here's part of a interview with Mike Eldred.
You can read the whole interview on page 3 of this thread

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=43487

We are working now on a Buddy Holly Strat but that's secret (not for long), also on a John Mayer model; the Nils Rodgers should be finalized by the end of this year and on the Peter Townsend Red Strat which is the guitar he played the longest period during his career and which produced acoustically an unbelievable sound which I prefer to a J 200.

-Wasn't it an EC Strat originaly?

Yes but all has been changed: the bridge, the pick ups, the pre-amp

Yes it was/is a EC strat Jason, with all that Fishman goodness added too.
I've been waiting with baited breath for this one for close on 3 years now.
I heard rumour it's due out this year (I heard that last year too) or 2011.

Pete has several modified Clapton Strats in his arsenal (finished in Olympic White and Torino Red), one of which is equipped with a Deluxe Locking tremolo assembly modded with Fishman piezos and the other (an Olympic White model) fitted with an original Floyd Rose tremolo.

I've seen some shots of John Page with Buddy's Strat on the Nov. 1999 issue of Guitar Player, here's a photo of him cradling the guitar after completing restoration work on the stunning icon of rock history.

Rickenbacker has produced a Pete Townshend Model-a 360 I Believe and Gibson has made a Pete Townshend SG model so I guess it's only fitting that Fender get on the bandwagon and make a Pete Townshend model.

Just can't see a Sig Strat for a guy who paid his dues with a Gibson. It doesn't get better than Live AT Leeds. SG Specials and Hiwatt Amps. Might market well, Who knows........... Mike

Mike he's all Fender now though isn't he. Truth be told Fender couldn't care less what he uses or used, as long as he sells their guitars for them now.

In the '66-'68 years Pete played a lot of Strats and Teles and went as far to say that they were his favourite guitars as they were virtually indestructable. You could see just how hard the Strat is to break by watching Pete bashing his Vox amps and everything else in the Monterey Pop footage after playing My Generation. He once said in an interview from that era that the Tele was the hardest guitar he ever tried to demolish and he dismissed Gibsons as flimsy junk-still Gibson released a Pete Townshend SG.

I predict that by 2020, every major (and even minor) guitarist known for playing a Fender will have some type of a signature model. Who hasn't got one yet?
