Hello,

I found a guitar on ebay which i'd like to buy but in advance i'd like to know the exact model (the seller can't tell).
It's sold here in germany on ebay for 450 €. What do you guys think of the price ? The serial number is MN3128638.
Excuse my bad english ;-)

That guitar was made at the
Ensenada Plant (Fender), Mexico
in the Year(s): 1993 - 1994.

The price seems high.

Make sure the frets aren't worn down too much!

hmm...Does the seller have a pic of the back of the guitar? Reason being is the body looks funky with square edges. Anyone ever see a Fender with that square of body edges before? The bridge looks like a made in Asia cheapo judging from the saddles, could be the lighting but something makes me skeptical.
The price is too much for a knockoff or even a real MIM Std.

On the positive side, the strap buttons are Schaller straplocks.

Neck looks OK from what I can tell.

Hi There.

More pictures would be helpful, but it is most likely a made in Mexico standard that has had the saddle changed and the strap locks added.

450 does seem a bit high, unless it had a Fender case to go with it, without case 275-325 would be average.

Oh, and your English was just fine.

Hmm. Well I can't find that Strat for sale anywhere on German Ebay, so we might not be seeing more photos. Perhaps Phil247 has already jumped on it.

Assuming the price quoted (in Euros) is for a new guitar then that is a touch high by US or UK levels but actually a shade lower than a new Standard Strat in the shops in Germany. So it is probably a reasonable deal.

But can MIM Standards come new with those strap buttons...?

I think the rest of it appears legit. I suspect the square look to the edges is just the lighting in the photo.

Cheers - C

You'd better make sure that there's a tummy contour and a contour for your right arm. From the pic it looks there's no contour and if that's the case it's not a Fender-not the body anyway.

The guitar isn't on ebay anymore because it wasn't sold. The price was at 460 € including a fender case. I told the seller that I am interested in buying the guitar if he will lower the price and now he told me 420 is his last price.
I don't know wheather I should buy it cause I could get a new 2009 standart for about 450.
I told him to give him a clear answer in a few days, just to make sure there isn't any better options for me. My max is 500€ but there ain't any good offers round my region these days and a new classic player (which I think would be the next best model to get) is at 650€. There is a special deal for a classic 60s sunburst but I don't like the aged white color of the parts too much.
Is the classic 60s a big step ahead of the standart ?

Now this seems a little unusual to me.

Image

The way the ligher area of burst extends into the upper horn. Buddy Holly's strat was the same way. My Deluxe is not. It like most just has a blacked out upper horn.

Yes. First of all thanks for posting more photos of the guitar in question. I retract my earlier post about the guitar being fake since now I can see that the saddles do look legit and the squared off corners probably are just a trick of lighting. It did not sell because it is priced too high.

420 is not a good enough price for a 1993 MIM Standard (serial number starts MN3...) when you can get a new one for 450. There have been MANY upgrades to the MIM Stds since 1993 that makes the new ones far superior in my opinion. It's worth the extra 30. A 1993 MIM Std is not sought after by collectors either.

Yes the Classic Series is a step up from the MIM Stds in terms of quality and hardware, but the vintage styling might not be to your liking (I don't like them). You'll have to try one first. The Classic Player is the top of the line MIM model and has a combination of modern and vintage features. If you can find a used Classic Player for 500, then go for it. Otherwise a new MIM Std will be just fine. I'd say skip the 1993 Std unless the seller comes down in price more.

Sorry I don't know exactly what a good price for a 90's MIM Std is in Euros. I see some for about $250-$300 here in the US on craigslist.
