I feel the same about humbuckers in a Strat, but they seem to work well for Dave Murray. Eddie would be proud if you put in a couple of humbuckers.

I must have lost my mind. I have always been against humbuckers in a Stratocaster.

Hi Nevin.

I have a pick guard and a Fender bridge humbucker sitting in a box.

30.00 shipped to you, just let me know.

Why have two samers? If you prefer your LP, play it more.

You'll love your Strat more for it when you go back to it. If you want to put a humbucker thats close to a PAF in it, the Dimarzio ProTrack is the route I'd go.
What I really like about Dimarzio's buckers is how he doesn't just take the testbed readings off his full sized buckers and makes his singlecoil sized ones the same. He actually listens to the pickups and measures their tonal spectrum in play when designing em and adjusts em to suit the smaller housing. Thats why they measure differently to the full sized counterparts but sound the same.
I've been in a sordid love affair with the humbucker/singlecoil sound of bridge and mid together, for around eight years now. Also I'm very fond of the Baja Tele's Bridge and Neck in series sound. Kind of humbucker, but not quite.

You may want to experiment on your strat and wire the bridge and mid in series. Leave the neck alone. Have a 3way instead of 5way switch. You could have
Bridge/Mid Series
Bridge/Mid series, Neck parallel
Neck.

Or am I just talking myself into it?

Fear not, and besides a P-90 is a single coil so perhaps that will ease your pain...

I have both types of strats and the clarity of a strat single coil is supreme especially in plucking and rythm. Its an aquired taste, I also like my humbucker strat oink oink oink blaaaaaaaa and twaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Hey Nevin,

Why not try, it is good to experiment. I have experience with one HB that I found in the small private guitar repair shop. It is some weird old Gibson classic 57 (I think, not 100% sure) pickup and it is living it's fame in the bridge position. My strat sounds very, very close to the SG with this puppy.

I still love my single coils, but the need for variety is satisfied.

I'm not sure you can say that all humbuckers and all single coil pickups sound the same anyway. I know that I've heard several different sounds from both.

Bam - what he said! I love 57 classics, but when I tried my Am Stndrd the tone was just so sweet I put the Gibson back I was trying and bought the Fender. I still pick up the LP & 336 more often, but it is a real nice change to be able to grab the Strat and have it be sweet-sounding AND different!

I have been playing my LP a lot latley, but I know when i'm "not feeling it" I will pick up my strat, and Bingo i'm in heaven.
Then after a few weeks when i'm bored again, I will pick up my LP and Bingo!
I HAVE to have both.

I have a strat, a tele, and a les paul custom. What else do you need? Different venues and situations require a tone that one guitar can't supply. If Fender made a les paul copy I'd buy it!

i have epi sheraton with gibson 57 classics

and i have a strat with cs 69s in it...

and i love them both very much..

for me it depends what im playing.... somethings call for humbuckers and somethings just have to be single coil...

if you are bored of single coils, are you also bored of listening to people who play them?

when i test the paf style humbuckers against the 69 single coils, theres actually not alot of difference. tone is so in the hands its scary.
