Hello, 5 years ago I purchased a 50th anniversary edition serial #z24033068 for my son. He played it sparingly, i suppose he prefers his martin dm anyway it has been in the case 99 % of the time and looks like new only thin is he had stickers on frets to teach him scales. no nicks, dents scratches now he wants to sell with Fender princeton 65 dsp amp in equal shape all with factory covers and hardcase. Is this just a "regular" axe or is there some collector value to it. He is in the Coast Guard and at sea alot, so I am trying to assist his decision as to value etc. Thank you PS upon further inspection I found original paperwork with it in case.

Hi Mrmikea

I have the same guitar. I bought it used 2 years ago for £50 under the new price.

I've since seen em sell for some stupid amounts. £1800 in one case. Other times I've seen them sell for very low amounts around £600.

I think their a bit of a anomaly at the moment. Not collectable per se, but of some interest to people expecting them to become collectable. Which is the reason I bought mine.

If you're looking to sell, hold on ten years or better still thirty years.

I'd remove the stickers, restring, then thoroughly clean and polish the guitar if your putting it away.

Put a couple of moisture absorbing packs in the case and then throw it in the closet.

Are you 100% it's one of the 50th anniversary editions from 2004? Fender put the same 50th anniversary neckplate on ALL American made Strats in 2004. The 'special edition' ones only came in 2-tone sunburst, maple fretboard, and with a tweed case with orange lining and the 50th anny logo on the inside of the lid. There were some other 'upgrades' to the special 50th edition that seperate it from its regular production brothers and hence make it more desirable to some and command a higher price than the regular production models of 2004.

So basically, if the guitar and case does not look exactly like the one below, then it is just a regular production model from 2004 and should be priced accordingly $700-$800. If it looks like the guitar below, I've seen them offered in craigslist for $1000 - $1200 lately and going up. I'd advise your son to hang on to it unless he's desperate for cash.

If it's an original '04 50th Ann. Strat it would be worth from $1050 to $1250. The Princeton '65 with DPS would be worth $175 - $225.The 50th Ann. models should appreciate more than Standard models over the years. As already suggested if you decide to sell it clean off all the sticker gunk and make sure that it's set up right with new strings. A neglected or dirty guitar can be a turn off to some potential buyers.
