Are the american deluxe series made of one piece of alder or ash ?

It the only thing that i need to know.

Can't remember the last time I saw one on a factory line guitar - though they do exist, apparently. I'm told you can order a one piece body as an option from the Custom Shop (do I have that right, people?).

A quick glance at a guitar alongside an ash tree shows why you don't get many pieces of wood big enough for one piece bodies. Remember, you need a plank cut (approximately quarter sawn) from the section between the bark and the centre of the tree in order for the grain to be stable and not inclined to warp. This tree is a touch over 90 years old, I just happen to know. Not fully mature - but it is not going to get very much bigger in girth beyond this stage. Ash and alder are not huge trees:

And to make the cut clearer, here is a diagram of quartersawn timber (kindly drawn by... me) :

So. Each tree trunk yields few pieces of quartersawn wood big enough for a whole Strat body, but lots and lots more timber large enough to make two and more piece bods. So there ya go...
