I had a chance to check out the 60's road wrn Strat. What great guitar. It deffinately have the vintage vibe down cold. I really felt that I was playing a much older guitar.

The neck was well broken in and the relicing was very genuine looking. I've seen some other non-Fender guitars that were reliced and they always come up very short.

I may break down and get one.

Hi paris,

I bought mine late last year. I really liked the look, sound and feel of it. You're right, it feels and looks like an older guitar. :) Mine had a few problems that I was able to correct. I had to file and smooth the fret ends that were sticking out past the edge of the fret board, which has been typical for many of my MIM guitars. Maybe the fret problems are due to low humidity in my house, yet it's only MIM that are affected. I had to finish a small amount of the routing in the bridge cavity (about a half-inch), as the bridge block was hanging up on the body (didn't notice in the store). It's as if the machine stopped just before it was finished with the routing...??? I also replaced the whole bridge with a Callaham "Distressed" model, for much improved tone. While I was at it I put on a full pick guard shield, and a base-plate on the bridge pickup. The guitar now is fabulous, and has the best sound of any Strat that I own. The combination of the light body, nitro paint, the mods and the Tex-Mex pickups make for a fantastic guitar. I would buy another one, but I would check it out more thoroughly than I did this one. Although.......I do enjoy working on guitars, so I didn't bother to take mine back for a better one, just fixed it myself (quicker, easier, less gas used). And I don't believe that the fret edges are covered by warranty anyway. :)

It sounds like you found a good one. Buy it!

I hated these when I first saw them, what a stupid idea. Then I was at Sweetwater trying to find a guitar that had a comfortable neck and the salesman recommended I try a relic since they had a vintage neck. Even when he took it down I thought it was stupid...until I played it. I didn't even plug it in and I was hooked. It was like I picked up a guitar I had owned my whole life. I played more expensive guitars in the shop that day but none of them were even close in terms of feel. I am now dead set on getting one of these.

I had planned on buying one of these and putting some Jazzy Cats, 69's or
S-5's in it (Mayer tone, sorry) but after hearing the Tex Mex, it may be hard to do.

If you pick one up, enjoy!

I have a mix of a 50's roadworn but with the 60's neck. I bought a 50's roadworn strat but didn't like the neck so I sold it and found a roadworn 60's neck. Awesome combo looks and feel wise.

I swapped out the pickups for some klein jazzy cats which were very nice, but too low output for me. I scored a set of big dippers and put them in there.

At some point I'd like to find a 60's roadworn pickguard and shield it. It's not really noisy but I don't know too much about shielding. Only the tone controls are shielded on the 50's pickguard.

I don't feel any need to replace the bridge assembly. Playing this thing through a deluxe reverb reissue and a zendrive is a great sounding tone to me.

Campfire, I'm curious. Did you buy the JC's looking for the Big Dipper tone? How different are they from the BD's? I don't know if I'm allowed to bring it up but if you end up throwing the JC's on feebay, let me know.

Mine arrived by DHL this morning:

Great playing Strat, great neck and bridge pickups, a real Frusciante vibe here but not convinced the bridge p.u. is on par. It will be connected to the tone by monday to tame it a bit. The worn finish of the neck is divine.

All considered I am very happy with it, particularly with the flamed neck and 2 piece center joined body (visible line where the 2 pieces are glued).

I know, it is my 6th strat (only got 2 in total - sold the US Lone star, 2 of my MIJ RI 50's and my AVRI 54) and it just knocked me out, every bit as good as my 50th anniversary MIJ 50's reissue to play.

Stunning is the word, somebody in Ensenada had the great idea of bolting this stunning neck to a 2 piece alder body.

I sold the jazzy cats in one day when I posted them. They are great sounding pickups. I came across a deal buying the big dippers. They seem very similar, the jazzy's seemed more bassy? and lower output.

The big dippers can sound somewhat like texas specials if you really dig into them so I liked having the real deal in at least one strat. If I do another partscaster I'll try some jazzy cats again...

That's cool. I have an American Special with the Texas Specials but they seem a little "Angry" sometimes. I really thought about getting the Jazzy Cats but if they are that similar to the TS, I may just be waisting money. I have heard that the Dippers are a custom wound version of the TS's but I haven't A B'd them together to see if they sounded that much alike. I am glad you got your dippers though, you may be the person who scored the set I was watching on ebay with the pickguard for $360.

I love mine big time. It is a 60s road worn. I was AB ing it with my 60s custom shop today. I perfer the road worn. Not to say my custom shop is junk because it is a beauty. The road worn just seems to have every thing I want my Fender Strat to be. It seem to be what a Strat should be and sound like. Love it.

I hope fender will make a roadworn with the same fret size but with a 9.5 radius. It's just easier for me to bend strings with a 9.5 radius over the vintage radius. And maybe have a roadworn with relic'd gold hardware too...
