My buddy has been telling me about the Stratocaster ULTRA, but i have never seen one or heard anything about it. I did an inet search but there seems to be little info about these. Are they anything special? Any details?

I found that in the Vintage Guitar price guide ( 2006) :

US Ultra / Ultra Plus 1990-1997 Alder body with figured maple veneer on front and back, single lace Sensor pickups in neck and middle, double Lace in bridge, ebony 'board. Sunburst
Price $775 to $885
-------------------------------------------------------
On Fender Frontline Fall 1997 ; U.S. Strat Ultra

(USA) The ultimate in versatility best describe the US Strat Ultra. A multiple Fender-Lace Sensor combination and some special switching provide for a noise-free recording or live playing instrument with a wide tonal palette.

feature: Alder body with figured maple top and back, ebony fretboard with mother of pearl dot maekers, pearloid pickguard, locking keys, LSR nut, fender/Floyd tremolo.
Colors 806,828,836,837

I hope this help you

There is a monster thread on Strat Plus/Plus Deluxe/Strat Ultra guitars here on this forum:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=26284

If you go to page 18 there is a Japanese ad for the Strat Ultra (shows a 1991-1993 model before they switched to the LSR nut, pearl pickguards and the Fender/Floyd Rose bridge).

Hi all,

First post here... :-)

So, there is definitely a new Fender Ultra series of guitars coming.

I have been eyeing up a Fender Elite HSS Strat or an Elite Tele for some time. I played both and loved the compound radius necks on the range.

I was in a music store in Birmingham UK looking at the Elites and the Fender rep happened to come in. I could hear him at the counter saying to the sales team that "This" is the Fender Ultra Strat which is replacing the Elites.

As you can imagine I got a bit excited and couldn't help but move closer. It was single coil in a kind of Cherry or Sienna sunburst.

The sales people plugged it straight into an amp and it sound "amazing". The only way I can describe it is, it was like running through a compression pedal without running through a pedal. The tones were gorgeous and so well balanced.

Playing softly was that bluesy tone and when the player dug in hard it was just on the edge of break up..

The sales guy then handed over to another sales person and I had to go over. A) She was cute. :-) B) She could play..

I saw her (as in the guitar) up close and she was gorgeous. Beautiful wood grain was distinctly visible.

THE BIG DEAL.
So, I have a USA Standard HSS strat which is the an amazing guitar but, I also have a mid range Ibanez RG series but for playing motown and funk the Ibanez pickups are a bit harsh but I absolutely love its thin Wizard neck. So Thin and flat it makes it so easily playable.

The Ultra had a much thinnest and flattest neck I have seen on a Fender Strat. I thought "there is a god and he listened to me". :-)

They wouldn't let me play the Ultra but I got my hand on the neck it just felt perfect.

So forgive me for the long details but yes, there is an Ultra coming and it is from what I can see an Elite (noiseless pickups etc) but with an even thinner neck.

Apparently should be released this year 2019, wouldn't be surprised if it depends on how quick Fender clear all the Elite stock.

Andertons music store in the UK have also taken £600 off of their Elites (further evidence) which is funny as it makes it cheaper than the Professional range but, stock on the Elites is limited.

Hope this helps. :-)

Interesting post. I am assuming the new Ultra doesn't carry over the (Fender shoot themselves in the foot again) funky truss rod adjustment from the Elite. Yet another Strat misfit consigned to the annals of history?

I too noticed the Anderton's "Lets dump our old stock" video. I think I would struggle even to buy a new Elite at the discounted price as it pretty much obliterates one the the main joys of a Strat in being able to swap components over.

I was about to buy an Elite SSS sunburst but suddenly they were all sold out. Hopefully the new guitars will be available in good time before Christmas as I would like to use it on some music and videos by mid December.

I find it strange to release a product this close to the holidays.

It seems Fender put an embargo on several Websites before the official announcement, forcing them to pull out the leaked articles from their pages. An effective measure to stop the leaks circulating across the Internet.

And to separate the newcomer from the Strat Plus/Plus Deluxe/Ultra models in the past, this one's called the American Ultra...

There's been another topic going on in the Lounge: https://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=118325

Not impressed.
The color options are nice, but for "Ultra" I would have expected a roller nut.
It's an Elite without ebony... for $150 more than the Elite.

[Smug Face]

Being something of a traditionalist I quite like it. Shame about the two post trem as I prefer the six, even though I appreciate the two post is probably "better".

Otherwise, if I was to buy another Strat (I don't see why I would other than perhaps an AVRI or CS) I would consider it. And this is the big issue that Fender face, how do they entice people to buy more of their guitars?

I've never thought there was anything wrong with the standard Fender 2-pivot.
It's like Toyota rebadging pretty much everything SR5, then removing standard features from the Limited and XE/LE models... They're calling it an "Ultra" but it's really an "Elite" and lacks one of the defining features of the "Ultra" that people really liked.
Why stop at the locking tuners, particularly with a $150 premium over the Elite.
