I have a mid-ninties standard LH strat. I want to play 11's on it. I am trying to find information for brand, type, number and configuration of springs to resolve this issue. Also is this something that can be done at home or should I seek a profesionals help.

Thanks for the info but I'm looking for a recommended brand name and number of springs to install to keep the bridge down when the heavy gauge strings are in use.( i.e. I used brand x and 4 of them) for example. Also with the recommended number of springs should they be installed straight or diagnolly.

The number of springs determines how easily or stiffly the trem works... the degree of float (or lack of float) is determined in part by the number of springs but mostly by how far you screw the trem claw screws into the body.

For example, you could have a 3-spring non-floating trem with 11s if you chose to, by screwing the trem claw spring way into the body. The trem would still operate easily, but would be flush with the body.

With 11s, most players use 3 or 4 springs if they intend to use the trem and 5 (or a wooden block) if they don't.

That "straight or diagonal" thing is just another mythos surrounding some famous players guitar: it doesn't matter. Also, you don't need a professional, although if your bridge is currently floating and you crank it down flush, the intonation will be off.

I think that answers my question. Is there a brand of spring you use or would use?

The ones in my guitar came out of a Fender MIM Strat. I'd use the Fenders. if I was buying new ones.
