One of my tuning keys is pretty... sloppy (for lack of a better term). I have to turn it about 40-50 degrees before it engages the gear.

This is on a brand new Strat. It's not a big deal, but it's kinda aggravating when trying tune precisely. I don't imagine there's anything I can do to tighten it up.. but I thought I'd ask if anyone here has any suggestions.

A brand new Strat has a warranty.

Take it back to the store and let the staff there fix it.

What kind of Strat? I believe the Schaller sealed tuners on an American Standard have an adjustment screw - it's actually the screw that holds the button on the tuner - when you tighten the screw it should tighten the tension.

Hi redshift20: of course it is a big deal.

It might be just the button loose on it's post, within which case you can tighten the screw in the middle of the top of the button, like John C says.

Otherwise, it's an internal issue and can't be fixed, so a new tuner is needed. Take it back and have it addressed under warranty - like Retroberbial says.

Come to think of it, I haven't really added anything here to what the other two have said, have I?

Good luck - C

Thanks for the responses!

It is an American Standard. I tried tightening the screw first thing.. but it didn't seem to help.

I'll take it in and see what they say.
