My guitar --
Image

So right now I have an Epiphone Limited Edition 56' Goldtop Reissue. I was on Kijiji today browsing around and I came across a MIM Fender Strat in Daphne blue. I emailed the seller and asked some questions and heres what I got from that.

-7015517 (s/n)
-2003 (year of BODY)
-daphne blue (color)
-MIM (body/pickups)
-MIK (neck)
-case included.

He said that all that was $525 (with case)
I have also attached pictures of the guitar.

Now, I was wondering if its a good trade to trade my Epi away for this strat?
OR, maybe not this one specifically, but would it be an even trade to trade my Epi for a legit MIM fender strat?

Also, whats the difference between a MIM neck, and a MIK neck? He said it was a better neck and was built in the early 90's.

Please let me know what you guys think!

Thanks!!!

Welcome to the Forum.

Personally I would not make the trade.

Well one is made in Mexico ( MIM) and the other Korea ( MIK). Personally I think think that is a bit much for what in earnest is a Mexican and Korean Partsocaster. That neck isn't from a legitimate Fender, the headstock shape is all wrong. Personally I'd keep your Epi unless you play that partsocaster and just have to have it. Just know that more than likely it isn't made up of all legit Fender parts.

Okay, can you tell me what exactly is wrong with it? I know you said the shape is wrong, but whats a legit fender strat headstock suppose to look like? And is there anything else wrong with it? Would checking the serial number with fender be a good idea?

As much as I love MIM Strats I'd keep the Epi if I were you.The price he wants is too much for a used MIM/MIK mongrel. If your '56 reissue is near as nice as the ones I've seen around here it's a real keeper and Epi P-90s are just sweet.

Those Epi's are special. As much as i love Strats the one you are looking at is a dime a dozen. Likely been damaged, ie the replacement neck.

Your LP would be hard to replace. And you could easily find another MIM strat with less question marks around it for less money.

Even if you weren't talking about trading that Epi, the MIK neck on the MIM body is a bit of a red flag,( why the change?) and the price too high, I would caution you away from that guitar anyway.

I love those ads "Guitar is Mint" oh except for the replacement neck...

You can check the serial number but that won't be of much help to you as legit serial numbers can be faked easily.

The shape just looks wrong proportionally. The ball shape looks off and the width looks wrong to me. Compare

I also don't know of any Fender labeled Korean strats made in the early 90s. I know there were Squier labeled ones and Later Korean Fenders like the lite Ash series but I don't remember any from the early 90s. All in all you can get a much better guitar for a little more. For example I got a Custom shop partsocaster with all American and Custom Shop parts for $800. This guitar looks suspect and I think it would be a good idea to keep shopping instead of trading a good guitar for something that you may have a hard time moving down the line if you choose to do so.[/img]

All these come in Daphne Blue ranging from $119.99 to $3800 brand new.

I'd keep the epi and just buy a squier for between $119-$279 if you are only worried about having the color.

I personally would never buy an instrument without trying it out for myself first. But that's just me...to be completely honest, you may not want to take a risk you will regret. I traded in my MiM when I was still inexperienced for a Jackson of some sort at the shop, and I regretted it seriously later on.

Although I got my Strat back a week or two later, so the regret doesn't burn as bad. Long story short, think of how much you appreciate your guitar first.

+1
If you can find one locally, trading your Epi Les Paul for a legit 100% MIM 50's Classic would be a good deal.

I'll tell you what, my brother just bought one of the Epi '58 Goldtop P-90 LPs. That is one damn fine guitar !! Rivals my Gibson 1968 Deluxe GT RI . Just about prefect setup right out of the case. Looks stellar!

The MIM Strat I'd trade for that fiddle would have to be a top-flight player, no exceptions. And I agree with Rocker, If I can't play it first I don't buy (or trade for) it .
