I putting together a Dave Murray Strat.

My questions is about mounting the pickups.

In the Sig Strat the pickups and mounting rings are held in by the pickup screws only. The pickups which are the same humbuckers, Dimarzio Super distortions and the PAF.

My questions is, I was going to use spacers, but the pickups came with springs. Should the springs be used instead of the spacers for a tighter fit? With just the spacer the pickups seem really lose and move around a lot.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

By spacers, do you mean the little bits of surgical tubing?

If so you could try getting different sized lengths and see if the bunch in tighter.

Yes the tubing. I put 2 on each side, it did'nt help much.

I think most of the assemblies I've seen used the springs?

When building my DM strat, I used the springs - simply for the reason thats what Dave uses (and yes, the tighter fit). You can't go wrong with either if you dont mind some trial-and-error experimentation on how long to cut the tubing for the best results. You could do both, if you really wanted to. ;)
