I have a 1984 Strat in Pacific Blue, beautiful guitar, but I noticed this weekend the paint has started chipping away on the body. Can anybody tell me what could have caused this. It is on the front and back of the guitar.

Welcome to the forum!

I believe it could be caused by exposure to extreme temperature change. Hot to cold maybe?

Finishes are not really my strong point but there are others here who will be able to answer you with much greater certainty.

Pictures may help us determine the issue. There are more than a few things that could damage a finish, sorry to say, but your description is too vague.
(it's hard to describe stuff that may be easily apparent in a photo.)

Even with pictures there is no guarantee we'll be able to tell, but there's a chance someone may have had a similar experience, and be able to help.
