An 89 decal would have a serial number. http://s817.photobucket.com/albums/zz93 ... g&newest=1 ..... Not sure what you have there. More pics of the whole guitar would be helpful......... 8) Mike

There are some Strat Plus and Strat Plus Ultra experts here, I'm sure they will chime in. By the way, welcome to the forum..............

Well, the neck isn't right. In 89 the Fender logo was different. Looks like yours orginally had different tuners on it as well. You can see screw holes that were filled in.

The bridge is right for an american standard and plus of that year, so the body is probably American.

Pics of it apart would help ID it, would need to see neck and neck pocket markings, and see if the body has a swimming pool route. It should for an American Fender of that year.

Does the neck have a roller nut? A Strat Plus would have had one of them as well.

The body looks like a typical 80s/90s American body - it should probably have a swimming pool route under the pickguard. The bridge is also an American Standard/Strat Plus bridge. The pickups look like Fender also, but you will need to check them out. If the Duncan is a "Pearly Gates Plus" then they were used on the USA-made Lone Star Strats, but those pearloid pickguards.

The neck is the most troubling - that is definitely a vintage style decal (as used on some of the 1960s era CS Time Machine Strats with the patent numbers). There are plugged holes from where it looks like vintage tuners were on it as some point. I guess it is possible it was a Strat Plus neck that was refinned and had a vintage-style replacement decal (most likely a copy since Fender doesn't sell these) and vintage tuners, then had the locking tuners put back on it later.

Detailed photos of the guitar disassembled would be useful.

This guitar is not a Strat Plus or Ultra.

The logo and the pickups are not correct.

Looks like a "partscaster" to me. All American Standards and Plus series had the serial number on the FRONT of the headstock up till 1995. JasonSD pointed out the tuners were changes. Can ya take off the neck and see what is stamped on the heel and in the neck socket of the body?

Definitely. However, I was posing questions about the presence of a roller nut to see if the neck was a complete replacement from somewhere or if it was some kind of refin of an American Standard or Strat Plus neck. The OP mentioned something about the person they got it from saying they changed out Lace Sensors for those pickups.

It's definitly a partscaster, but I was hoping the OP could get some more photos so we could see just how many parts are Fender and maybe help him figure out where this beast came from.

The patent numbers on the neck are what was on Fender necks in 1962, but his neck is maple and 22 frets. So could be a replacement neck that someone added the decal to.

The plug holes look more from like a japanese style tuner, like on the 87 squier I have, not really vintage, seems low. Like the vintage tuner screw holes would be a little higher. Need to see a pic with the one of the tuners off.

Jason - good point. I've never had an MIJ Fender with the modern tuners (I was into other brands during that point in time and when I got back into Fenders I've tended to stick with the reissues - MIM, USA, and CS).

Those holes do look more like they fit those tuners instead of the Kluson-style vintage tuner.
