Legacy Learning Systems Learn and Master Guitar.

NOT just for electric, but 'guitar' in general...works great with any guitar though!

I think that the best DVD self study course on the market is Learn and Master Guitar from Legacy Learning (http://www.learnandmaster.com/guitar). It costs about $149 but you get quite a lot for your money. The 20 DVDs cover a lot of ground but they do so in a very comfortable pace. The instructor, Steve Krenz, really does an excellent job of presenting the material.

Another good self study course is Metal Method by Doug Marks (http://metalmethod.com/). The cost for the basic course is about $70. Doug is another great instructor who does an excellent teaching job.

These two courses take completely different paths to learning guitar. Learn and Master Guitar emphasizes the ability to read music from the very beginning and covers many different genres of music. Metal Method dispenses with the music reading and opts instead for extensive use of tablature and the course is more aimed at rock and metal.

There are other good courses out there but these two, in my opinion, are the cream of the crop. Good luck and have fun......

I also recommend the Learn and Master Guitar series - well worth it.

If you're into blues, I would reccomend John Ganapes'
"Blues You Can Use" series.

I like the legacy learning system. I paid about 150 bucks or so and made payments in 3 monthly installments but good DVD's and includes a book. I am currently enrolled in a music class learning how to read music and i wished I had just spent more time with the legacy

+1 on the Legacy Learning Systems Learn & Master Guitar series. If you put the time in, it is the only course you will probably ever need. They have a great user forum with lots of helpful info as well.
