It sounds like you need to bring the bridge down some. For a floating bridge, Fender suggests the back of the bridge should be raised 1/8" from the body for a floating trem. See here: http://www.fender.com/support/stratocas ... _guide.php
Perhaps yours is double that distance and the trem block is starting to touch the back of the trem cavity and could start causing all sorts of problems. Screw in the two trem claw screws until the bridge comes down to Fender specs and might as well give your guitar a whole setup. Then tweak from there for what settings you like best.
Here's a diagram that might help you visualize where the starting point of a trem block should look like, keep in mind this is of a blocked (not floating) trem however so it would be leaning a little bit towards the back of the wall when floating, but certainly NOT anywhere near touching it:

So the trem block is hitting the spring side and not the back side as I presumed? And the bridge is still floating? Wow! I never have seen that before! I'm stumped. You shouldn't be having this problem on a brand new Strat.

Are the two bridge stud screws raised super high? Can you take the guitar back to the shop where you got it from? Or can you post a pic of the problem? I'm still baffled how a floating bridge can have its trem block resting against the front of the cavity.

I would say that those 2 bridge screws are too high...just like metropolis stated. It seems like the only thing that could cause that to happen. Is the bridge angled back and hitting the body or totally flush?...does that make sense?

Those bridge screws need to be set so the top of front edge of the bridgeplate is around 1/8" off the face of the guitar. Any other string height adjustment should be done at the saddles.

If you have the desired 1/8" gap, the back of the trem raised a bit and the tremblock is still hitting the springside of the cutout. You need to return the guitar and get a replacement. It sounds like the tremposts are in the wrong place or have moved.

Hi, I have a 88 standard strat mia. The guy said a pro had set it up, but it doesn't feel like it. The trem block is touching the body, only on one side though. It almost looks as it were sitting crooked. Any ideas?
