I would like to hear clips of Fender guitars on Fender's site. Gibson has nice sound clips on their site, but I don't see any on Fender's. Are there any?

Thanks

I don't see how sound clips of Fender guitars would do anybody any good.

First of all, every guitar sounds different depending on who is playing it. There's no doubt that the player's touch has more to do with the sound of a given guitar than anything else.

Second, let's take a Strat as an example. Which "Strat tones" do they post? The SRV thing, the Hendrix thing, the Blackmore thing, the Knopfler thing, the Clapton thing, the Lowell George thing, the Vince Gill thing, the.... see my point?

I'm guessing you're suggesting this as a way of helping people choose a guitar. My opinion is that clips wouldn't help anybody make an informed decision, and would result in Fender's bandwidth costs going through the roof.

There's clips on a bunch of their guitars, just gotta look. And yeah sound clips won't be of "your" guitar, but a lot of people use these as a referance. Like "I know this guitar has twang, but how hard can I push it?" Also, many people don't have access to some of these guitars, so their choice is to either wait for someone to try and describe what it sounds like, or buy them blind  . So sound clips can help, and what harm do they do anyway? But they need clips for way more of their models.

I'm not sold on the value of sound clips. Let's say your listening to a clip of an Am Deluxe. Do you make the clips played thru a 65 Super Reverb or a Marshall or a Twin, etc.....?? Do you play hard rock? Country? Swing? Blues? Too many voices for a clip to be accurate for the buyers needs.

At least thats my humble opinion.

Treat yourself to a copy of the book which was published on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the production of the Stratocaster. There is an interesting CD enclosed which covers a range of sounds, the hallmark of milestone players.

The original Stratocaster voice of the '50's, which I grew up on, can be heard on any of Buddy Holly's recordings. That's where it all began sonically.
