I've been experimenting alot with my action. My neck is a 9.5. I really hate mushines around the 7th to 9th fret, so I've settled on a straight neck, about .005 on the 9th fret. My action was previously 2mm at the 17th fret across all the strings. It still wasn't quite right, so i did it by feel and it meased 3/32 (2.4mm) across all the strings. Its a little stiff, but it really sings! Its incredible that slight difference. Does anyone have a similar action?

Yeah raising the action appears to change the tone of the guitar. Strings seem ring out longer and and it sounds "bigger" for lack of a better term. The downside is the higher you go, the more difficult it can become to play comfortably.

3/32 (6/64) is medium high I suppose. I'd call 7/64 or above high. Stevie Ray Vaughan was at 7/64 on the bass side for example. Fender suggests 4/64 across the board in their setup guide. I've settled on 5/64 on the bass side and 4/64 on the treble side for my Strat.

Nevin, if you consider 6/64 very low, I'm curious what height you're at.

You should mention what strings your using. I'm using 9s.
On my American Standard 9.5" mines on the 5 side of 5/64s on the low E and 4/64s at on the high E. My neck has .007" relief but it can change a little depending on the time of day here I've noticed with tuning.

I don't know the measurement....but it's high....and I LOVE it!!
Especially with heavier strings.

I'm usig 11-52 strings. I find 1.6mm as Fender suggests to be far too low.
