Have you ever eaten that?

What's it like?

It is a thick, heavy yeast extract taken from brewing beer.

The last time I had it, it had to be like 50 years ago. I remember it being one of those things that was so bad, it was good (if this makes any sense to you).

Logically, unless desperate or made an offer one couldn't refuse, I would think that one would not want to return to an environment which has proven first hand that even a dedicated, skilled worker's position is precarious. How can said worker go back and interface with "the suits", knowing that they were the ones who threw his or her's and his or her's family's lives along with 30% of his or her co-workers and their families lives into turmoil like nothing ever happened? Moreover, to be expected to perform like nothing ever happened and worst of all, with the firm knowledge that it can certainly happen again?

And then there's the first time hire: As any diligent, prospective employee researches a company they are considering getting a job with, many will dismiss the notion knowing all that has transpired.

I really hate to say this but in the wake of the totality of these developments, this might very well be the end of what I feel was the absolute best dynasty of Fender instruments. So, savor the ones you own because at the very least, filling back orders with the work force on hand minus so many skilled and experienced hands, QC is surely going to take a dramatic hit. Either this or like Rickenbacker, only a handful a year shall be produced.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

On a lighter note:

Now, how about a nice thick slathering of Marmite on a bun, yum, yum!!!

Martian, totally agree with you. This could be an era of where the best were made yester-year, the signs are certainly there for sure. Job cuts, the economy etc... I believe in the next 10-15 years a lot of production willl move to the east because of this. Look at the progress China have made in the last 15 years of guitar making. Epiphone are constructing Les Pauls better than the USA plant does to the point you have to sit and question "is the price jump to a Gibson LP Std worth it?"

I would like to see the Fender Japan gates opened again for us all again- or perhaps Mexico will have to ramp up production to counter. Look at what they are doing- nitro and they are doing good with RW- for the price how long will it be before Std become the new "American Std"?

Any yes- smear that Marmite on a bun for Xhefri and please dont go skint on the spread!! :)

While I was typing my above quote, I couldn't help but thinking that Epiphone instruments surely outsell Gibson instruments as the price of Gibsons are cost prohibitive to most players nowadays where granted, most modern day Gibsons are fine guitars but there is absolutely nothing about them which supports their astronomical price tags.

This lead me to ponder if MIM Fenders currently outsell MIA Fenders and the possibility that MIA Fenders shall go price wise the way of Gibsons in light of all that is happening and has recently happened. I would venture to say too and reinforcing your point, that even as one can't buy a tea cup made in the USA any more, Fender Japan will probably be the premium Fender line of the future (with hefty price tags, of course). And FWIW, I honestly can't see how Fender US is going to resume 'normal' production and the superior quality we've all enjoyed of late under the current circumstances. Here too, I would think they'll simply follow Gibson's SOP. Well guys and gals, it was a nice ride!

For the few among us who still have disposable income, it may not be a bad idea to buy up MIA Fenders hanging in stores now as just like with Gibsons, your investment in probably a matter of months will allow you to flip them at a profit. And the longer you hold onto them, if Gibson is any indication, the bigger the profit!

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

So now I understand why Mr. C. responded the way he did when I mentioned that Bovril sounded a bit like bovine spongiform encephalopathy......

Who you calling nuts?

And why are my eyeballs rolling around uncontrollably like this? [Calling] Nurse. Nurse...!

Regarding what Martian just speculated upon: it's hardly scientific but a very famous seller where I live who's been in the biz since the '60s (OK, Macari for anyone as knows) told me a few months ago that the MIM Classic Player '50s and '60s models outsell all other Fenders, far as his shop is concerned at any rate.

That was a small surpise to me: I'd have assumed it would be either the Standard or Am Standard. Or maybe just the Squier starter pack. So who'd have thunk...?

Cheers - C

I stand corrected.

And still mystified.

Then ya just gotta suck it and see:

http://www.expatdirect.co.uk/Search.aspx?Search=Marmite

Please don't get the squeezy one. That is an insult to all that's holy.

And be prepared. It is a refined, sophisticated, tangy taste that divides the men from the boys and is assuredly not for everyone. Hence the advertising slogan (earlier).

But then not everyone likes a Strat through a Marshall. Some just don't get it... 8)

Now. What shall I have for supper? These Korean meatballs certainly seem to be the dog's bollocks...

Marmite....

I can't stand the stuff. You all know is made in the devils arm pit right? Nasty stuff and smells bloody awful.

Mrs Bighair, for some unknown reason will occasionally ruin a perfectly good slice of toast with this viscous plague-like substance. Now, not wanting to totally ban marmite (spit) from the household, I had no alternative but to place the offending jar on the highest shelf in the kitchen (where Mrs Bighair can’t reach it), in hope that this will deter my beloved from indulging in what I believe to be a most unattractive activity.

I was horrified to find out that She’d bought a small pair of steps to reach said “pot ‘o’ plague”. The next day, she went to the kitchen only to find the Jar of Black Death and the steps wedged up on the same top shelf.

CP 50 & CP 60’s

I’m not surprised at all the CP 50 & CP 60’s are selling so well. They have a great spec and choice of colours (sonic blue looks great!) and they are well priced. A smart move by Fender in my mind.

Andy

Ya, they make the BLACK TAR of DEATH Vegimite (Marmite Light) at Sanitarium Foods in NZ (Blertles!) I toured the company when I was there. I wanted to see where they make that stuff and those yummy, get very soggy quick, Weet-Bix. So here is the main gate.
Image
BUT, to my surprise, while the San is owned by Christians there was this big Beer truck parked outside the main manufacturing plant! (me in front).
Image
Then I found out that, yes, as brought out by Martian (I think) that this stuff is made from BEER YEAST! Who would ever think of putting nasty old beer yeast on toast??? Ummmm.... And by the way, this bar was somewhere in NZ as well, but I can't remember where..... help me out Blertles....

No doubt that Fender sells a lot of MIM Fenders. The quality is really pretty good and if they want to keep marketing USA Fenders, they wil have to have something that puts them a cut above the others, or focus on specialty guitars, such as signature models, DX models and the like. Wonder if they laid off people in the Mexican plant when they did it too those in the USA???

Thanks for the recon info Jeff.

Once Me and Randel the Cat have reached world domination that site will be the first of many "BLACK TAR of DEATH" factories to be destroyed.

The forum is great for collective information and for the fun diversions along the way as well! Sometimes it reminds me a cyber-get-togther where a group of guys (and gals) are standing around shooting the breeze about their favorite topics (geetarzs) and getting sidetracked along the way, and laughing in the process!

If one goes back and reads the majority of the lengthy threads here, it is quite evident that that the original subject always gets changed and then the next subject gets changed and so forth. Whether it gets back to the original or not, well, that I didn't really bother to track.

It truly is a lot of fun and like you said (paraphrased), we are all just hanging out and having a great time.

I honestly hope no one's mileage varies on this one!
