I dont want to bring gloom and doom here but I have to say this folks, Fender USA is going BROKE....yes its true. This slow up is an indication that Fender USA will soon close shop. The MIM and China Squires and does Japan still exist, these will continue for the near sighted future but dont stress folks, all you that have USA Fenders will treasure your guitars and they will be worth 10 times more than what they are now. After the end of next year when this will start to occur we will need to wait till 2019 before the announcement that the USA arm will start operating again its only 9 years so chill out relax and enjoy what you have blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and twaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa a message from Vinny Pop

Cup of Bovril at the footy on a cold november afternoon. Enough to warm the cockles of anyones heart. Especialy with a dash of pepper.
Beautiful drink for the beautiful game.

I've a book on Marmite recipies somewhere. That will need a new thread with prizes though. As I'm not brave enough to try 99% of em.

Just don't get the stuff inside your pots. No amount of switch cleaner will sort em out.

Fender told me today that they are "hiring" and are having a difficult time finding "skilled craftsmen." So maybe you should give them a call!

Working there would probably be a blast but they don't pay for relocation so in my case, the logistics would probably not be worth the effort.

I can't help but wonder though, if they are having trouble recruiting "skilled craftsmen", especially in a vocation where said "skilled craftsman" truly love what they do and I'm sure, many would love doing it all the more at Fender, I can only conclude that there is disparity between the salaries being offered and what the "skilled" deem acceptable. YMMV.

Ya, I was thinking the same thing. While it would be a novelty to work at Fender (plus maybe some perks like employee discounts) I bet the pay is pretty low. Wonder what the starting wages for a "craftsman" would be? any ideas???

Martian maybe this would suit???

I thank you but with all due modesty, where I'm at now, I have been the QC Manager for over 20 years. With the exception of daily CNC programming, all the other jobs listed I have either done, continue to do, or train and supervise staff to do. So, I'm positive one segment of all this good stuff I'm currently responsible for wouldn't be shall we say in terms of dollar value be, a 'lateral' paycheck.

I certainly can't speak for FMIC but from what I've seen nowadays with so many other firms, the trend appears to be that only those currently working who possess a bona-fide astro-physicist's (or similar) credentials shall be considered for a part time, minimum wage, general 'gopher' position where guaranteed, if someone else doesn't want to do certain segments of a job, these certain segments shall surely be yours forever more. It's the old 'blanket statement': "And perform other tasks as required". If one is desperate (as how many of our unemployed truly are), one will be forced to settle for and agree to pretty much anything. Another consideration too, NO country has a monopoly on an individual human being's intelligence. Say a Mexican citizen came along and answered the ad to FMIC, Mexico where said Mexican citizen comfortably fit the requirements. Well, coupled by the windfall of having to pay a mere Mexican salary vs. an American salary, in the final analysis, whom do you think shall ultimately get the job?

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

I think working at Fender would loose it's novelty pretty fast. Just like when I played music semi-pro, it got to where it was work and I dreaded it — the fun was gone. I "play with" guitars and music now as a hobby and thoroughly love it. That would soon be gone if day in and day out I was doing a repetitious mundane task assembling guitars or some counter job. For those of us that currently have good jobs, we need to be thankful, as some of my friends right now are really hurting after being outsourced, laid off, or just shut down. In recessionary times, employers can, as you pointed out, take advantage of the work force...

Uh-uh: risky talk. We brought in massive and stringent processes to stop BSE in 1989. But I notice this:
Wikipedia wrote:
However, U.S. regulations only partially prohibit the use of animal byproducts in feed. In 1997, regulations prohibited the feeding of mammalian byproducts to ruminants such as cows and goats. However, the byproducts of ruminants can still be legally fed to pets or other livestock such as pigs and poultry such as chickens. In addition, it is legal for ruminants to be fed byproducts from some of these animals. A proposal to end the use of cow blood, restaurant scraps, and poultry litter (fecal matter, feathers) in January 2004 has yet to be implemented... In February 2001, the USGAO reported that the FDA, which is responsible for regulating feed, had not adequately policed the various bans. Compliance with the regulations was shown to be extremely poor... Indeed, US meat producer Creekstone Farms alleges that the USDA is preventing BSE testing from being conducted... Possibly due to pressure from large agribusiness, the United States has drastically cut back on the number of cows inspected for BSE...

65 nations implemented full or partial restrictions on importing U.S. beef products because of concerns that U.S. testing lacked sufficient rigor... In the United States, the CDC has refused to impose a national requirement that physicians and hospitals report cases of the disease (vCJD)...

Do you know what's in your food?

Yikes! I'm visiting the US next month. Should I be scared...?

The Fender plant is located in one of the most bankrupt states in the U.S.

Some California based companies are moving away to states that have more to offer. I do not know if that is the case with Fender or not. I do not know it the rumor on this thread is valid. I have not noticed a shortage of Fender USA guitars in my home state.

The economy is bad all over the U.S. I visit 4 different music stores in the area. Guitars are not selling well, period.

One sure way to boost sales of produts gathering dust on the shelves is to rumor that your going down. I have witnessed this over and over.

People take you for granted, and when you threaten to to disappear suddenly your in demand.

This is a practice in several industries. How many times have the Rolling Stones gone on the "final tour"

Again, I have no knowledge of anything going on with Fender but business a usual

If anyone can produce some solid evidence then post it with quotes or links. Not just what you heard at the music store....

You might take the time to go back and read page 2 of this thread. I called Fender and talked with a marketing rep and shared what he said..... Then we moved on to topics like Marmite......

If you like eggs, you'd be best to find an alternative to those too with the latest salmonella outbreak in eggs over here.
