Hi,

I have read and understand the diagram of the S-1 switching. Why do I hear a tone change, when the 5 pole switch is in the 5th position, while turning the NT knob from 1 to 10, with the push switch in the up position?

According to the diagram, the tone should stay the same, whether push switch is up or down?

I want to understand this further, as it comes into question, when considering the height of the pickups?

Thanks,

I will try this evening to duplicate your situation and then respond. Have you the ability to hook a meter to see what is going on electrically?

Is this the diagram you're referring to?

If it is, and the 5 way switch is in position one, with the S1 up or down, you are still getting output from the neck pickup, so you should still be able to adjust the tone with the neck tone control.

Here is the switching diagram in concern:

http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/ ... 02APg4.pdf

In my use, I have always considered the switch position of the five pole switch, without regard to the diagram; however, the diagram calls the switch position in this question, position number one.

So with the five pole switch in position number one, and the S-1 switch in the up position, tne bridge tone set to #1 one, the neck tone knob should have no function. However there is a discernible difference in the tone, while adjusting the neck tone knob. When the S-1 switch is in the down position, there is no discernible tone difference, which with regard to the diagram is what I expected.

As I read the diagram there should be no difference in the tone irregardles to the position of the S-1 switch, up or down, when the five pole switch is in the number one position.

I am questioning this because even a 1/64 of a inch makes a difference to the sound.

It makes setting the balance of the pickups easier, when the switch acts according to the diagram. Though I can hear the tone difference, it makes it difficult to identify which pickup to adjust. The neck tone and bridge tone pickups are suppose to be off, yet they are being effect by the neck tone knob.

Thanks,

thats incorrect i believe.

on HSS's, with the s1 switch down on the bridge position, it should switch to only one of the coils on the humbucker

The following sentence was typed incorrectly, in the previous post. It is the last sentence in the post:

[[[The neck tone and bridge tone pickups are suppose to be off, yet they are being effect by the neck tone knob.]]]

The sentence should have read: The neck tone knob should have no effect on the tone, and pickups (A) neck and (B) middle should be off.
