I purchased a defective LSR nut. I cut the nut slot and installed it. When I went to restring one of the cavities that holds the bearings was bearingless. The little dimples that were on the claws of the other strings were there but the missing one had the claws only depressed into the cavity no dimples. I contacted the supplier and they wanted me to return at my cost and a replacement would be sent me. I would only have to wait for a backorder of 120 days. I refused and told them just to refund my money and I would return it at their cost. They refunded my full purchase price and told me to just keep the nut to avoid them paying for the shipping. Confronted with a guitar I couldn't play, got me resourceful. I made a call to a local machine shop who quickly sized the bearings. The skinny on the Fender LSR nut bearings. Simply ask for 3/32" - 2.381mm Chrome steel bearings. They can be bought at most bearing suppliers also available on Amazon and eBay. Problem solved, I was up an LSR nut for $.60.

That's what I call great ingenuity! I've had two of these nuts I had to throw away because I'm lost ball bearings. I never thought about the best that I can actually find a bearing that size someplace. Thanks for your investigation and tip! :!:

For anyone else looking to order an LSR, I found it for only $26.89 at http://www.musicpartsplus.com/Nuts-Sadd ... 39779.html and shipping to Canada is only $4.

Is this a good link. I keep getting redirected.

I'm with you on that Xhefri, I've replaced them so many times that I can't keep track of which Nut is which. :(

Don't even get me started on losing Balls!

I keep them Clean & Lubricated, even bought special tools to make sure they're properly sized.

But when it's all said and done I'm never fully satisfied.

I'm always reading about and looking for a better Nut!

I think instead of getting old ball bearing's size, you can replace the nut. That will be good for you.

I have seen ESP offers it on some of their stuff, but your right, if it was the S#@T, more companies would use it. Frankly, I don't understand how it's supposed to improve intonation all over the neck. I could see it may help with open chords, but once you fret a note is the nut really doing anything? What you hear from the strings is between the fret and the adjustable saddle.
YMMV = you're method may vary?

You've just reinforced my point when it comes to fretting as well as intonation for that matter.

YMMV: "Your Mileage May Vary." Meaning, one's experience or position in whole or in part on the subject matter as stated by the poster may be different.

That's not the purpose of the roller nut. It's supposed help a string return to its previous position after a note has been fretted. Tuning problems can happen when a string gets bound up in an improperly lubed or cut nut. Has nothing to do with improving intonation or only working on open notes.

Tonality, the part you quoted was in relation to Earvana nuts - they had a 'compensated' product to replace Fender's roller nut, and that was directly linked to intonation. "Revolutionary guitar intonation technology", as the company claims - or claimed; apparently they're not in business anymore.

And once again, a kind thought to the third rock.

The idea was an interesting one as a straight nut is in-tonally off a wee bit. But the whole thing falls apart as soon as you touch a fret. One reason I was also never a fan of brass nuts in the 70s that came on some guitars like Gibson ES355S DX. Like soon as you touch a fret the string ends there and not at the nut. But roller nuts? I am sold on them and they are on almost evey Strat I own.
Gotcha. Sounds like a load of BS to me.

I liked the LSR Roller Nuts on my Strat Plus' the best ..

but I'm neither skilled nor desirous enough to learn to install them ..

I do have a set of Gotoh Nut Files and Big Bends Nut sauce to keep my "ordinary" strats free from snaggin' after all my big bends : )

Off topic kinda .. I bought a set of Ernie's Balls M-Steel strings .. I was impressed .. the wound strings tuned to pitch and stayed in pitch without any stretching for more than a month .. and sounded good too .. but at triple the price of D'Addarios I had to move on .. they'd be good for a pro player without endorsements though ..

I've rarely experienced LSR bearings falling out. Usually, this is caused by the unit being bent, stretched out and/or hairline cracked somewhere. I like the LSR Roller Nut, and have one installed in a couple of my Start necks. I've never used oil on them or have had any need to. The only thing I can tell you is to try contacting Wilkinson and Fender. If they can't help you, you will in fact, have to get a new nut which in the long run, is what you really need.
