We've had a few of these polls already. Does anybody really expect Fender to lose a contest like this on the Fender Forum?!

Well my Fender American Deluxe V-Neck Strat is my favorite guitar I own; but it's also my most expensive by a significant margin. I've also owned Gibsons, Epiphones, an Ibanez Artcore and scores of knock-off "no name" guitars. I do think you generally get a lot of guitar for the money with a Fender. You can get an American Standard Strat brand new for around $1K. Good luck finding a Gibson Les Paul for that.

BUT as a company Fender doesn't offer anywhere near the range that other manufacturers do. Gibson has the Les Paul and SG, as well as the whole ES line, which IMO are some of the best semi-hollows ever made. Fender doesn't really do semis, outside of a few unusual Telecasters that don't sound much like Telecasters. Plus Fender's acoustics are, let's face it, crap. I'd take a Gibson Hummingbird over ANY Fender acoustic ever.

Ibanez makes everything from pointy shredder-metal axes to jazz boxes and 12-string acoustics and everything in between.

Schecter makes guitars for $600 that LOTS of companies can't beat for hundreds more.

So yeah, while Fender certainly makes some of the BEST guitars on the planet, in terms of being well-rounded other companies really leave them in the dust. They've got the Strat, Tele, J-Bass, and P-Bass and that's it. Sure all 4 of those are LEGENDS, and that's great. But other companies certainly cater to the needs of a much larger and more diverse scope of musicians.

Hey Shastaboy, I didn't catch you on your arrival so welcome to the forum. Now, questions like that are dead end questions. Your poll should include at least one hundred other guitar brands (in fact all the brands), so the winner could be picked amongst his peers and thus undoubtlessly represent the summum of quality in all the aspects of the workmanship and reliability. It's impossible. If Fender was the best brand, then why bother to carry the other brands like Gretch, Jackson, Charvel, Squier and so on. It is because that each brand represent something unique that has an appeal for a particuliar customer. The guitar industry is an evolving marquet, has always been and will always be. 8) I can't speak for the other brands because I own exclusively Ferder gear. But I'm a Fender fan, not a fanatic. We are all in a learning process, a lifelong ordeal. I hope that you find 2009 to be a very good year for you with the Fender Forums. :)

Claude.

shastaboy, you seem to have some kind of fixation on the concept of the "best" of something.

Since there is no such thing, you should maybe give up on that.

There is no "best," but I think we can all agree that a Les Paul or a strat is better than a squier.

In my opinion, Fender takes the win for the greatest guitar: the telecaster. It suits my music therefore I view it as the best.

But for the best company I'd have to say it is probably Gibson. I say that because I'm sort of angry at Fender for going un-American, the same way I'm angry at C.F Martin for going un-American. It just annoys me when companies do that because the quality will never be the same as being made in America no matter what you tell me. The standard stratocaster is made in Mexico. You have to get the special "American" version in order to get a USA-made guitar. Just me personally, I feel an American company, especially one that advertises being American, should make its standard guitars in the country it is headquartered in. I highly respect this about Gibson.

Basically though I like Gibson acoustics and Fender electrics.

Gibson probably makes guitars in other countries to . You can not be angry at a factory for producing their stuff in other countries as long as they use the same materials.
American guitars such as Fenders and Gibsons are FANTASTIC guitars, that's a fact!!! But ... - and maybe I get a lot of negative reactions to this reply but it's not my intention to critisize - I'm from Europe (Belgium specificaly) and over here when you talk about other countries, in order of being a guarantee for quality, countries like Germany or Japan have far more better reputation in case of high quality standards. It might be normal for an American to rate American products as the best, but this is also the case for people in other countries. Some even say that the perfect Fender should be the one made with the original American components, but build in Japan!

PS,
Don't get me wrong I play an American strat too (not the standard, don't like that one). I was planning to buy a Japanese tele, but it was to expensive!!

Just for the record, Gibsons "offshore" brand is Epiphone. Some even say Gibson on the trussrod cover as well as having Epiphone on the headstock

It's all about producing a less expensive guitars so that more people can afford to play.

Blame the Labor Unions for the outrageous cost of American Labor.
