Why exactly are squiers thought of as inferior to strats? What are the mechanical differences?

the fenders normally have much better quality, and they are much cooler if you ask me.

I assume it's because they are foreign-made with foreign parts?

But aren't these foreign-made as well:

Yes, that guitar you linked is made in Mexico.

Generally speaking, the quality is more consistent as you go from Squire to MIM to American made. I have a Squier strat as well as a MIM strat and they are both tremendous guitars. The Squier I picked up used for $85 and it actually turned me on to Fender in a big way (previously I was a staunch Gibson fan). It just seems that with a Squier guitar, you may need to play a few before you find one that has a good fit, finish, and sound. With MIM and American made, you pretty much can pick up any one and have a sweet guitar in your hand.
Hope that helps a little penny.
