Granted, its not the most appetizing name around, but why do so many people seem to dislike the circuit? I installed it the other night on my Fender SCN pup equipped MIM Standard Strat and love it! Now when I roll off the highs on the neck the sound no longer turns to muddy mush. It is deeper and more resonant with just a bit of treble harmonics coming through. I have the circuit on both tone controls with them wired up as per American Standard specs . I also have a treble bleed kit installed which really helps when I lower the volume. Previously, cutting both tone and volume made the pups sound lifeless. Now it sounds like a Strat regardless of the settings. Try it. You might like it. :D

Blue,
I am with you. I have it on my HWY 1 Tele and my HWY 1 Strat. I absolutely love it. So I am not sure why some folks hate it...to each his own..:)

I like it. I even have a variation of it on the bridge tone of my Les Paul.

Fender's description: Greasebucket™ Tone Circuit, (Rolls Off Highs without Adding Bass)

Note that a passive circuit cannot "add bass". It does keep the tone from becoming too murky as you roll off the highs.

Example wiring diagram:

The Greasebucket circuit consists of components 12, 16, 17, and 18:

On this site go up under "Support" and open up the guitar wiring diagrams. The links are for the Strat Highway 1 HSS Upgrade, wiring diagram and parts list.

I've found a lot of posts in other forums where it is the first thing people change.

But I am glad that a lot of other people do like it. :D

I don't have any problems with the Greasebucket Tone circuit.

Actually, I barely notice the difference as I'm not a big user of those knobs marked "Tone."

I've got a HWY1 and I really get a lot of use out of the tone knobs. So no complaints from me.

You'll have to try it and let us know. All I know is it sounds great with SCNs.
