Well there are standard Strats made in the U.S. but they're called the "American Standard" series. They run around $1000.

When you see a Strat refered to as simply a standard, it's usually Mexican made. If it's made in the U.S., it will say American Standard.

The cheapest American made Fenders are the Highway 1 Series. You can get one new for around $700, unless they've raised the price. Then there's the American Special Series, which used to run around $800 but came up to about $850 I think this year. And then the American Standards which I mentioned above.
