That was the year of the upgrade. There may have been some 2005's still new in the shop sold in 2006, but they are not considered 2006 guitars.

Well, then my son might be considered lucky (or unlucky) because... his Fender Frankencaster, got a Highway1 body and a neck WITH the little headstock and the serial number Z6xxxxxx. Made 2006 right?

The neck is
Stamped: Apr 20, 2006
Labelled: May 02, 2006

Check it out to say what you think... http://www.wickmanska.se/strats/

Yes he got the later on pre-upgrade 2006 highway. Does it got the 60th anniversary badge ? If so then he is lucky.

If I'm remembering correctly the Highway 1 update occurred mid-year at the Summer NAMM so there were some small headstock Highway 1s in 2006.

Differences between the original version and the current version include the larger trem block and the Greasbucket circuit. The larger trem block will provide more sustain than the smaller block on the earlier version, plus I believe the block material is different. Whether you prefer the Greasbucket circuit is more a matter of personal preference.

Also, post upgrade (large headstock) H1's have differently shaped necks, and jumbo frets, as well as the nitrocellulose finish.

I think you are absolutely right John.
Smaller trem block (zinc?) changed to larger steel trem block... and Grease Bucket circuit.

But my son´s HW1 only got the neck and body from a HW1 so I am not really sure... and to answer joaokorb... it has got the 60th Anniversary badge on the back of the headstock. Did it appear on the larger headstocks from 2006?I can´t remember. But it has a nitrocellulose satin finish on the three-tone sunburst body.

This is what it looks like...

It doesn´t have anything more in common with a Highway1 except or the body and neck, but I think it is pretty cool...

Here´s the story about this Frankencaster
