Hello all. I recently acquired a body for a partsocaster build. I have no way of telling if it was an MIM, squier or even an MIA, since it was a repainted body.

The question I have is that it seems that the bridge post holes has a measurement of 2 7/16" or 62mm from center to center. I tried using an american 2 point bridge, but it was too short to fit the studs. Any suggestions on what kind of body I have and what tremolo system I can use?

Thanks!

Well, I don't know about measurements off hand, but a mexican body would have some 3 holes between the lower horn and the route like this one.

And American would have 1 hole. and I don't know about a squier.

But this probably depends on the year too, so you're might be different.

You could look up on ebay, like a mexican bridge, and they'll probably say what the measurement is. I'll take a look real quick.

Oh just noticed you said 2 point trem, so that would rule out mexican. So if an american bridge didn't fit, it might be a squier.

Well I take part of that back, some of the newer mexican strats have 2 point trems with vintage style saddles, but I assumed it wasn't a newer body. Also I assume the spacing on the newer ones is a little smaller.

Thanks Jason!

Looks like what I have is not a fender, but a mighty mite body (distinct routing in the body cavity, plus the "IC" and date of manufacture stamp @ the neck pocket). Kinda bothers me as why did the original owner drilled it 62mm apart. The only tremolo I saw with that spacing is for squiers and a wilkinson trem from GFS.

Thanks again for your help sir.

Hi rapZa: 62mm? I've never come across a spacing that wide. 52 for MIMs and Squiers and 56 for MIAs are the standard measurements, and most after market bridges are made to one or other of those dimensions - usually the latter.

I have not heard of a bridge with a 62 mil spacing. Which is not to say it doesn't exist: if anyone comes across it I'd be most curious to see.

Care to show us pix of this body? From that measurement alone it seems fairly safe to say it has not seen the inside of any Fender factory - which just piques the curiosity of some of us!

Cheers - C

That is an interesting bridge hole spacing.

Perhaps that's why the guy sold it ...

Is either hole in the "right" position?

You should be able to drill some new holes for whatever kind of bridge you care to use.

Good Luck

Do you think it's someone's beginner's attempt at a self-build? Someone who didn't come here to check how to do it first?

Still. That possibility obviously fills the head with ideas...

You don't know it, rapZa, but this guitar is your oyster filled with green horizons. (Outrageously mixed metaphor, anyone? 8) )

Good luck indeed - C

Hey Ceri and Orville!

This is my first partsocaster, so I need all the help I can get. :) The guy I got it from said he has the bridge and will send it to me by the end of the week, so maybe It'll help. if not, I'm off to send it back to him for a refund.

I will try to post some pictures tonight and hopefully we'll be able to sort this out.

Thanks guys! :)
