I have a 2004 series American Stratocaster HH. Why was the HH discontinued? I am just curious because the S-1 switching system stopped working properly after about 2 years and some finish is coming off of the neck. All this with mild use.

From a business perspective the only reason to discontinue a model would be slow sales. I suspect that is what happened with the American Strat HH. It seems like the American Strat HH was discontinued at the end of 2006; I don't remember seeing them in the 2007 Fender Frontline.

Of course when the American Series was replaced by the new American Standards at the start of 2008 they even dropped the S1 switching from the HSS model.

I had one of those that I got in a trade back in 2005; it was either a late 2003 or early 2004 (it had a Z3XXXXXX serial number but I never removed the neck to check dates or anything). It was a nice versitile guitar but since I'm a single coil guy I wound up trading it on a Rivera amp. Sorry to hear you're having finish problems. If you're the original owner you could talk to Fender about repairs under warranty.
