Colleagues

Permit me a question. I do not often post, it has been quite a while but I do follow along almost everyday with the posts here at this forum.

As previously posted I am a relative newbe at this guitar thing at 58 years of age (almost retired) and continuing with my new found hobby and passion as a cellar dweller guitar player. I am improving and the lessons continue.

Now the question, has anyone out there replaced SCN pickups on an American Delux Strat (2009)? Much as I love them on my Delux tele (2006) I don't know, they just do not do it for me in the strat. What I am thinking is a set of 69 Abigail Ybarro pups I have heard them and do love the sound.

Is there any issues around the S1 switching in the American Delux do you remove it altogether? Will it work in conjunction with the 69's... or?

I just did the change you are talking about.

I bought a loaded pickguard with custom 69's, and switched out the S1 in my tangerine 2004 deluxe. took 30 minutes. only difference is the s1 uses two grounds, the more basic 69's use one. I kept the original guard and pickups so if i sell trade in the futrue its all there.

Hi palermog,

Going by the wiring diagram, the 69s should be a direct replacement for the SCNs. The new pickups come with a wiring diagram, so you can simply unsolder the SCNs and solder in the 69s, making sure polarity, and position in the body is correct. The configuration is the same as a standard Strat wiring with the S-1 switch up and adds the capacitor and special wiring with the S-1 pushed in. It would be interesting to hear the 69s with the S-1 pushed in. You will probably get more noise with the 69s, like most single coil Strats. The beauty is, if you don't like the S-1 sound, you don't have to use it (leave switch up), and you'll still have the standard setup to enjoy those 69s.

Edit: Looks like jeffcsmithj changed his whole pick guard assembly and the new assembly didn't have the S-1.

The S1 is no longer on mine with the switch I did.....I never cared for the S1, the pickups that came on my 2004 deluxe, loved the feel and color of the deluxe in tangerine orange. like the 69's....but I have a 54 reissue, 06 std, 01 texas special so have a varitey of different pick ups.
