I use Jim Dunlop "Big Stubby"s (2.0mm) as I like the resistance you get from them and, not being a shredder, I can play all the licks I need to quite comfortably. I love the extra volume and clarity you get from a thicker pick.

I use Fender "Heavy" and find them perfectly comfortable for strumming and lead work. Working on strumming with the heavy's takes some time but they provide awesome feel when worn out.

I don't know what kind of material Fender uses for those picks, but I find them sticking well even when my hands get sweaty.

Thinnest: Jim Dunlop .38mm
Usually: Brain .73mm or Cool .6mm
Thickest: First Act about .8mm (seriously, they're great for rock)

Just my 2 cents... (but really, the First Act picks are pretty good)

I use Dunlop .88s (the green ones). Thick enough to have nice control and flexible enough (for me) for chord work. The texture of the pick keeps it in my hand. I always have plenty of them on hand during gigs, but have never needed more than one.

I just started using those myself. I like the texture of them as they seem to stay in my fingers more but I may drop down to the next thinner ones. I did notice my strumming suffers a bit.
Nice picks though.

I use Dunlop Tortex, either .73 or .88. However, I've just started using some V-Picks and they are significantly thicker. I hear where the OP is coming from - it's much harder to strum using the V-Picks. There are so many styles to choose from though - there may be something that works for me.

I have a lot of Fender mediums in my effects bag. I used to use the heavys but I need more flexibility on the chording.

I have used nothing but Dunlop .73 nylon picks ever since they were made available but occasionaly use the .80 mm on acoustics.I find that heavier picks slow down my picking when doing leads.

I use an imported Japanese pick by Pickboy called Hi Modulus, 1.00 containing carbon fiber. These are really sharp picks that pick sweet for the blues styles. They have pot leafs debossed onto them. I HIGHly recommend them!

Has anyone noticed an inconsistency in the thickness of Fender Heavy picks lately? I usually buy my picks by the gross but recently I've been picking up the small 12-packs because nobody ever seem to have gross packs of Fender Heavy picks in stock. I can tell right away if the thickness and firmness is correct and I've been finding that 3 or 4 out of the 12 are more like Medium-Heavy.

Me too. I wish I liked the tone better from med. picks, but I just like the thin better. Probably harder to pick individual strings with, but nicer for strumming.

in my younger years, i used the medium to thick picks. when i started back playin again, i found that it was tough for me to play. i went to a lighter pick after trying several different thicknesses. the lighter ones stay in my hands better, and i'm not as sore after playing for a while.

one of the hassles of getting older.....oh well, at least i can still play :D

When I first started learning to play I always used fender thin (for a year or two) I got tired of braking them all the time so I swiched to 351 heavy, been using them for about 38 years now (I dont believe they was called 351 back then)
