l got a pack of Dunlop Gator Grip 1.5 mm picks and they give my strat this AWESOME low end fat sound to my blues playing and are great for leads and solos, BUT playing chords and strumming up and down fast can be a struggle

just wondering lf anyone else uses heavy gauge picks and how they like them, do they shake the strings to hard , are they to hard to use fast , what are your opinions

I have used thick one before, strumming chords sucked. I got get sound for individual notes. I like .48mm about the best.

yeah the thick picks give lt more attack and clarity and for blues playing lt sounds very SRV but yeah strumming up and down ls hard, strumming just down ls no problem though

dont jazz players and Eric Johnson use those small really thick jazz picks

I've used Fender extra-heavy tortoise-shell picks (351 style) for the last 30 years.

I use Fender Heavy and Fender Extra Heavy Picks with all of my guitars. I used medium picks when I first started playing but now whenever I try one I feel like I have no control over it. The one major downside to using heavy picks is that I go through three or four of them a night.

I mostly just use my fingers. I am trying to get used to using a pick and found a Fender Medium to be just about ideal.

Years ago, I used to but I stopped because the pick would constantly fly off my finger and thumb whenever I had to do any kind of constant strumming. Nowadays, I use a combination of my fingers, thumb and those orange picks, I don't even remember their name but they are somewhat of a combination of thin and a medium. YMMV.

Great control and note definition!

I use .73 medium star picks, it has always ben a challenge to find the right pick, it's a compromise between single note runs where the note rings out and flexibility for rythm work where the pick does not hang up on an individual string.

In the rythm as well as single note runs, you must be able to adjust the attack, piano or fortissimo and the shades in between, otherwise it's not music, it just becomes noise.

My pick is the last thing I want to be concerned about while playing, it has to become a seamless extension of my hand and fingers.

l prefer using my fingers and thumb most of the time though 90% of the time really

but for chords l always do the claw technique where l pull all the strings ln the chord up ALA John Mayer

I'm the oddball. I use thin picks.

Fender heavies, white, so they're easier to find when I (inevitably) drop them. Great for a dynamic lead style, I dont have problems strumming chords with them, I just have to lighten my gip a bit.
