i was wondering if you placed the springs on the back diagonal instead of straight across, then would it affect your intonation???

I have 5 springs and they are all straight across.

Well, 5 springs diagonally would mean a mess in the trem cavity, but if there are 2 or 3 there are possible combinations.

it would definately change things up, so before you do it you need to pick your combination, either the standard | | | , the popular modified / | \ , or the Eddie Van Halen | | \. I suggest you continue to use at least 3 springs for the sake of your neck.

Of course adjustments will have to be made if you'd like to keep your std. fender 15 degrees of elevated tremolo while adding whatever benefit from the respective spring combo. I do not know these benefits off-hand, but I know a slanted spring will have more tension. Also the heavier gague of spings you use, the more tension is needed to keep the bridge down.
