Hello Gents,

I just got offered what I think is a Strat Deluxe for $600. Everything I've checked on it denotes a DLX (to my knowledge):

Headstock says "Made in USA"
Serial #N4xxxxxx = 1994-95
3 Different colored Lace Sensors
Fender/Rose Trem
Roller Nut
Locking Tuners

The only thing that concerns me is the color of the body (doesn't match anybodys list) and the black pickguard, not tortoise shell. Should I ask him to let me take it apart? Any clues by lookng under the backplate?

PS - Although I can't read the *name of the color in the ad (poor resolution) the exact guitar body color showed up an an old Fender ad I saw on the internet for the Strat plus/dlx series with a few shots of Jeff Beck. "Vintage Blonde?"

No pics yet[/img]

Could be just a changed pickguard; the other specs sound correct for a Strat Plus Deluxe of that era - LSR roller nut, Fender/Floyd Rose bridge (with just locking saddles, no fine tuners), blue/silver/red label Lace set.

I remember an odd color that was almost a vintage white/vintage blonde burst if that is the color, but it would come stock with a tortoise shell pickguard.

I'll gladly send pics to your e-mail if you could identify the color.

I call it Aged Honey Mustard.

According to Xhefri at www.xhefriguitars.com, it's a '94 Plus Deluxe in Transparent Butterscotch with a replacement black 3 ply pickguard.

The Lace bridge pickup in this DLX is pretty beefy when driven thru my Marshall 100w JCM900 that I confused it with my Les Paul!

I'll buy it.

Did you mean this one?

Not necessarily the guitar you're looking for, but a similar model (not mine) with a 4-ply aged white pearloid pickguard and a maple neck.

BINGO! That's the color. Maybe Xhefri will post the pics I sent him. My skills at computers are poor.

I guess the DLX didn't come stock with a black pickguard.

Is $600 a fair price?

PS - There was no back cover on the one offered to me. Where can I find one?

Even with the changed pickguard and no back cover $600 is a good price for a Strat Plus Deluxe - as long as there is no damage to the body or neck. These originally had a tortoise shell pickguard and back plate, but since these have that locking trem they had a solid back plate (no string holes) which would be hard to find.

I suspect as long as you are keeping the black pickguard you could get a black back plate for an American Series/American Standard - it would have the rectangular string hole but I'm pretty sure it would fit the screw pattern. Xhefri would know for sure if the screw hole pattern works.
