I really don't know if they'd fit but I'd take old split post Klusons over any other tuner any day.I'm sure that there will be an answer for you shortly as there are many here that know every measurement of a Strat right down to the millimetre.

I put vintage style tuners on a Highway 1 Tele. The holes for the bushings were larger on the guitar so I bought bushings that adapted the larger hole to work with the smaller post on the vintage style tuner.

http://www.guitarpartsresource.com/tune ... shings.htm

"TK-0900-001
Nickel press-in guitar tuner adapter bushings. Converts modern 10mm peghead holes for use with vintage 1/4" post keys.
$6.49"

Be sure to measure, but I think those will work for you.

1996 - that was the "50th Anniversary of Fender" so all production line Fenders made that year got that gold label on the back of the headstock.

As tominkansas said the only way to put kluson-style tuners on a headstock with modern tuners is to use those conversion bushings to make the post fit. However, you will also need to drill holes in the neck for the kluson-style tuners' mounting holes. At least the body should cover the small holes for the modern tuners' mounting pins.

Apparently I'm in a minority here but frankly, I think all those vintage repros and even the real Klusons bite the big one most heinously. Yea, I know, its all about the classic look and all that but to this day, I've yet to find a set/brand of vintage types which are anywhere equal to, let alone better than the modern design ones. I put up with the vintage RIs on mine simply because they still will tune with a little extra coaxing and truth be told, I'm just too lazy to replace them with something better. As a matter of fact, I even have the replacement set on hand. I know its definitely coming though.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.
