So I'm going to look at an American Hardtail tonight off of Craigslist. The guy sent me photos, but is not the best photographer. He's asking $500, and seems like a good enough deal. No case.

BUT, I was looking at the photos and something stood out. The saddles.

Have you ever seen bent steel saddles with a 'V' ?

Any info would be appreciated.

They are aftermarket replacements. They MAY be old WD jobs.

Also note that your pot knobs are sitting pretty high up off the pickguard so the pots most likely have been replaced. Lastly, you will notice that the pickup mounting screws and the pickup selector switch screws are the countersunk type but the pickguard isn't shaped for countersunk screws. I would presume that the guitar was taken apart and there's a lot of stuff worth speculating about "under the hood".

The pickup mounting screws aren't the right type for that pickguard either ... they aren't sitting flush, they aren't in a countersunk pocket.

So there have been modifications to this thing.
