Thanks for the comments...I hadn't thought about that guitar in a long time...after researching (based on ya'lls commments)...it is a Vietnam Strat fake. I found some pictures on the internet and the hardware on the guitar matches those in the pictures...the only difference is that the tremilo plate on mine does not have "Fender" stamped on it nor does the neck backing plate have anything stamped on it. So just guessing its an early Vietnam fake.

The guitar is at my daughter's house and the next time I visit her I'll be getting it back taking pictures and posting them for those who might be interested.

This makes the guitar very cool/special for me as I lived though the Vietnam era as a kid/teenager and some of my friend's dads didn't make it home from there.

Thanks for the help in answering a 30+ year old question.

Hi EddieS! I'm glad you're taking this news well. Forgive the old timers around here from acting skeptically (and perhaps a little harshly) toward your guitar. If you do some searching on this site, you'll see lots of outrageous claims and lots of fakes. Fake or not, we'd love to see pictures of your guitar, and we look forward to getting your input on lots of discussions. Welcome! 8)

I'll second that Eddie. I love looking at guitars, wherever they were made, whatever they are.
I do particularly like seeing the first asian copies as I have a bit of a passion for the later asian copies. Kind of a look where they started / look where they are now.

So please Eddie, indulge me if you'd be so kind.

I love looking at old knock-offs too.Back in the 60s and early 70s nobody took the Japanese copies seriously but now some of them exceed in every way the ones they were emulating.

Thanks all... I'll be getting pictures together over the next few weeks I'm traveling right now... 5 grand!!! ouch!!!! but looking back the 21st pawn shop in Wichita sold me mine in 1977 for two hundred bucks which for the time was a chunk of change!!! (they claimed it was a 56' strat and I didn't know any better at the time) I had to put new pickups and wiring as the stuff it had was toast. There was a company making Stratocaster "Kits" back then with thick plywood bodies and their pickups and stuff where claimed to be the same as the 1957 strat I don't know if that was true but the guitar sounds nice and "period correct" the tremilo pretty well blows so I didn't use it much.

Good job on keeping Lonely Boy!!!!!!! serves'm right!

When I get it back from my daughter I might put the body back to its metallic blue when I got it.

Hey no worries dude....re-reading my post after some comments and with all the counterfeiting/fakes that we live with today (and always have been) I wasn't surprised to see some skepticism...which quite frankly keeps everything real. Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to the forums!!!!
