Ok, we need to get this Pewter Plus to its final stages of completion. I gathered the last stuff: Schaller locking tuners, bridge and posts, springs and tremsetter. I meticulously cleaned everything and made sure all the saddle screws on the bridge were turning properly.
Image
First thing is to put the tuners on using a 10mm socket. Then the screws on the tuner knobs need to be lightly tightened to adjust the feel of the tuner knob and to prevent them from coming loose.

It is a good idea to take some high quality oil, like this Braun, and place one small drop on the shaft that locks the strings in place. The oil will also dissipated and lubricate the rest of the inside of the tuner.

This bridge uses the snap-in tremolo bar. You can tell by a few things: 1) the block is black. screw in types have a gray block. 2) it has 2 allen set screws that tighten the trembar so it will not flop all over, 3) the snal spring below the allen screws that the tip of the trem bar goes into. screw in the bridge posts and then then while holding the bridge in the body with one hand carefully turn the guitar over.

Attach the springs and the tremsetter. I will explain tremsetter set-up later. Now the guitar is ready to string. I will use good'ol Ernie Ball .10s on this.

Image
I carefully thread the high E & B and Low E strings to hold the bridge evenly in place. One has to make sure the bridge pops down into place on the posts.

After it is strung, I will do a very quick set-up and then let the guitar "settle in" for about a week before doing the final set-up. So what do ya think? You like the black or the pewter the best?

The guitar looks awesome.
In the pics of the tuners it looks like the some are out of order, as far as the stagger for the string angles, like the one for the B sting? I'm probably mistaken though.

I like the Pewter ;-)

@ JasonSD: I think they're all the same hight. Don't think they should need staggering with that LSR, do they? hmmm...

My Plus is staggered. Think the lsr is more to help with the trem returning to pitch after use cause the strings won't bind, than break angles on the strings.

You might be right, Jason. The staggered pole thing is really confusing on these as some I have are all exactly the same and then some I have, from 87-88 are radically staggered. These look like they are mildly staggered. I will look at it tomorrow and swap them around is so! Thanks for pointing that out.

and great looking guitar too

I've had that kind of dried up polish in enough of my old Fenders ...

it does feel good to get rid of it ...

You were right Jason, these are very mildly staggered. I know when putting on any locking tuners, if you try to use the big E for the small E the string will slip, due to the locking pin being tweaked some. Will change these tomorrow! Thanks for pointing that out!

Ok, I finished these two Customized Strat Plus'. I was too lazy to take pictures of the final set-up on the Pewter one. In a week or so I will tweak it one more time after the wood settles in. Man, they both play sweet. The Seymour Duncan Seth Lover on the Pewter Plus gives those really nice 50 humbucker vibes, well, so does the Dimarzio Air Norton on the black one. Bluzy, jazzy, rocky and even metal tone with out compromising the Strat tone on the other switching positions. Has a lot of that Strat out-of-phase quack and honk. The action on both is really nice with the .10s

Well, they both look great. I guess I would pick the pewter.

How's the new Tele? You planning on changing that any? Or leaving it as is? I wonder if they made that model tele in Gun Metal Blue? That would look pretty sharp.

Xhefri, Most love the black one. Thanks for sharing all of the pictures. Your work and attention to detail is wonderful.

Height differences on the tuning pegs is a confusing problem. I know on my Amer. Std. I have four short and two longer ones, which I am sure is to provide the correct angle over the standard nut. But, trying to find a set of locking tuners to match is not simple.

Hey Jason, cleaned up and restrung the Tele and played her Thursday evening with some girls I am playing with ( one is a bass player and the other sings and does keyboard.) Well she is a fine guitar, BUT I keep gravitating back to my player Strat Plus with Maple neck and the Ultra wiring. The Tele is nice and I will keep it for a time.....

Oh, I have both these guitars sitting on the bed (where I take all the pictures) and strummed one and then quickly the other, and back and forth and was amazed at the acoustic tone difference between the two. The maple Plus was way louder and brighter acoustically. The rosewood softer and more subtle. The necks? the bodies? Ummmm????
