Well, we can all spec guitars all day long.

But if I was face to face with one of the masterbuilders at Fender I'd say to them; "What would YOUR ideally spec'd Strat be? Here's the cash: build it for me, please."

Those boys know what they're doing and probably don't get let off the leash as much as would be nice. Just for example, here's what Yuriy Shishkov gets up to when he's allowed to play:

lets see...
-solid alder body
-white finish with my tattoo/logo in solid black under the bridge
-standard synchronized trem with upgraded saddles
-5 springs in back
-two tone, one volume knobs, volume push pull for split coil
-tele style grip knobs in chrome
-3 ply black pickguard
-seymour duncan hotrail in neck
-fender standard middle pickup (sounds too good to swap out in my opinion)
-seymour duncan jb jr. in bridge position
-standard 5 way switch
-c shape solid maple neck with maple fingerboard
-black dot inlays
-locking tuners
-dunlop straplocks

best part is, i have this baby :) :)

Let's say Fender asks you to make a signature strat, what is it? Do you go custom shop? Production? Limited edition? Poly? Nitro?

go.

I'm building a my Big Hairy Strat at the moment!

If that doen't work out a Yuriy Shishkov build will certainly do the job!

I admit, I'm a minimalist:

- Alder
- Hardtail
- Maple fretboard only. No position markers.
- Custom pickups, voiced like 1962-era
- Master volume, master tone
- Finishes: Daphne blue, Charcoal frost, Seafoam green, Two-tone sunburst. Nitro, of course.

Great looks, with a warm, balanced, tone.

I would want a
Silver jaguar,
-with one humbucker(white cover)
-Strat bridge (no trem)
-White pickguard(totally white no metal parts)
-1volume, 1tone (white)
-lockingtuner
-tele headstock

This is more about looks, because why buy a fender? Because they always sound good!

mine would be an exact copy of my 62 reissue strat in a surf green finish.

I know not that original but in my mind you cant improve perfection

I would say my old '87 Strat Plus only with a little teaking.

Vintage early '60s alder body stained to a golden brown w/o clear coat.
Soft "V" rosewood slab with Fender Locking tuning keys & 80s Fender logo.
3 Gold Lace Sensors
EC Mid-range boost
2-point Fender Bridge
Tortisshell pickguard.

Hmmmm........mine would probably be pretty basic if it were Strat. Also love to make a custom Tele. I love the neck profile on my Road Worn '50's Strat. It's a bit more of a "hard V" shape than my other '50's style Strats. I know it's supposed to be a soft V shape, but it's not as "soft" as my AVRI '57 or CS '56 Time Machine Strat.

alder body
1 piece maple neck with hard V profile, 4 bolts, pre-CBS headstock, vintage style frets
Vintage '50's style pickups (close call but I'd probably have to go with Duncan Antiquity's)
vintage spec hardware, 5 way switch
bridge pickup wired with tone control
finishes would include: white or blond (ash body), 2 tone sunburst, black, candy apple red, daphne blue

Now for a Tele.....
Alder body with white or cream colored binding
maple stratocaster neck with hard V profile, pre-cbs Strat headstock, vintage style frets
Vintage style Tele bridge pickup (Fender American Vintage maybe? Maybe a Duncan Antiquity), and Duncan Antiquity PAF style humbucker in neck position.
Vintage style hardware except for a 6 saddle bridge, modern wiring
finishes would include: 3 tone sunbust, white (ash), candy apple red

I would go with kind of an odd-ball strat.

Specs:
OFR black, and black hardware
Transparent Honey Blonde color
Reverse headstock, painted to match the body
Maple fretboard, with jumbo brets
Alder body
HH Pickup Config, (I don't have to much experience with different pickups. So far my fav is the SD 59/ SD JB combination)
Rear pickup routing

Yeah, I'm tacky.

small headstock
locking tuners
lsr roller nut
maple neck
scalloped maple fret board
mahogony body with maple top
no pickguard
3 tone suburst finish
2 point tremolo
lace sensors S-S-S blue, silver, red
strap locks
hardcase :)

It'd be a 62 strat, but pink. 8)

You're absolutely correct in that regard. Is it no wonder that he pulled that one out of the vault as an example of the luthier's art. That's my favorite of all of Alain's acquistions, and he's got a couple of others that are really lovely, but they didn't cause me to fall down when unveiled. Personally, I'd probably commission this one as a hardtail just to have more of that fabulous wood on the opposite side, black vintage knobs for the pots, and a Clapton neck carve on a 21 fret neck.
