I just put a new pickguard on my guitar and when i went to play it neither tone pot will work. All the solder connections look good. does anyone know what could have gone wrong?

If you didn't do any desoldering its likely that a wire has fallen off.
Very unlikely there is a problem with the pots. Did you actually solder or change anything?

The other possible cause is if you had a shielded pick guard or have one now and didn't before. This could change the circuit if it was a custom job before someone might have done some sloppy assembly. So in that case trace out your ground wires and see they are connected correctly.

You can check all the wiring by following the wiring diagram found in the menu at the top of this page.
