Just got my American special back from GC, took the chance on their tech. He was great did exactly what I asked and my axe has a bit of a new attitude. Got the trem decked (locked down with extra springs) and a full setup done since I had it a while and had switched to 10's. Super sustain and massive bends, I friggin love it all over again.

That's funny, I did the same thing with my American Special, except I did not take it to GC. I love it.

Things are a bit different in LA. It is cut throat. If you actually befriend anyone working at the Hollywood GC...all they will do is use you as a proverbial emotional tampon to soak in how miserable they are.

I needed some tiny set screws for a saddle...GC was useless..Sam Ash sent me down to some basement way back in the nether regions of the store..where some guy working down there actually dug around in parts bins and gave me the set screws free of charge.

I am not stating this to imply all GC's suck..and all Sam Ashes are great..but only that you can not generalize from one experience from a particular location means everyone will receive the same level of customer service from that business.

Sure. but after countless threads of people slagging off GC, it's nice to hear of a satisfied constomer.

The GC in Des Moines is great. The staff was friendly and knowledgeble. One of the guys gave my son a few AC/DC picks out of his own pocket when he found out my son liked them. Only a couple of cents but a huge deal to a 10 year old getting his first guitar. I couldn't ask for a better experience there.

I wish I could say the same for the Hollywood GC. You are ATTACKED..literally, buy the sales staff who are hopeful you will go right for the CS or relics or whatever they can make the most commission on. They could not care any less if you actually buy what you need or request.

I do not blame the sales staff per say..as anyone with integrity does not last long at that location. I imagine from what I was told from employees that work there...if you don't make big sales..you are fired anyhow.

The store itself is great..considered a tourist attraction actually. But if you really need the correct advice or customer service...don't expect it there. No one there will move a muscle unless they are making a giant commission. If anything you need requires the slightest bit of effort...you will basically be told to hit the road.

So I only go there to try out guitars..then build my own.

To the OP, thank you for sharing your experiences here, all too many times we only hear the negative, it's good to hear the "Other side" from time to time.

I would like to thank the OP as well. I know my previous replies were negative, but it was not meant towards the OP or GC in general. I am just kind of upset with the Hollywood location as far as a customer.

But if you are in Hollywood, check it out anyhow..Last I was there they had some original guitars in the window used by Jeff Beck and others. And the place is huge.

I imagine being in Hollywood it is extra competitive and many employees may be disgruntled musicians..you think?

Sam Ash is the only company that has ever called me after an internet order to make sure everything arrived in good shape, then called again two weeks later "just wanted to make sure you are happy with your new guitar",-- plus got a $50 coupon good for anything over $50, basically got a free pedal! only drawback for me is that they are based in NY, so I get hit with sales tax
