Ebaysux, yea it is good for a laugh..hahah =D

On another note anyone have a clue to how this sambora neck was never attached to a body? The guy who sold it said it was never used or attached to a body, so does that mean a sambora body may be out there that this neck was suppose tobe attached to? Or is possible Fender just made XXX amount of sambora necks and bodies and w/e was left over, say an extra neck, was just sold to a collector or worker at the plant? Curious for input on this as I am sure some of you Fender Guru's have an idea or theory on this.

On another note, I hope everyone had a safe sept 11th (United We Stand)

The original USA Sambora Strat featured two Texas Specials in the neck and middle positions, but the last run of these guitars (such as this 1996 example in Olympic White - not mine) sported two dual-coil Ceramic Noiseless pickups (the same pickups used on the latest versions of this model), though I suppose the Vintage Noiseless pickups are not stock (the previous owner of this guitar has replaced the Texas Specials with two dual-coil ceramic pickups).

Hey chromeface beautiful sambora strat!!

But what I meant was :(sambora usa strat neck that sold for $1000 on ebay recently and was never used nor fitted for a nut yet)

There is a chance no one knows for sure. I guess the only accurate answer would come from an employee of the Fender factory with first hand experience building these.

In other words..were x amount of bodies built for x amount of necks? And what was the procedure? Did they just grab an unfinished maple off the shelf and then install the star inlays..or were these necks made from scratch specifically to be used for Samboras? Same with the bodies. Did they just grab a raw body and then route it for a FR and finish it ? Or were they hand picked to be used specifically for a Sambora signature?

But if that neck was legit...it seems it was never installed. So perhaps there is a Sambora body without a neck somewhere. But how many? Only a Fender insider would know...and even that at times is a "maybe".

Good point ebaysux. Hey I thought I had lucked out on a paisley strat body this week but the fellow trying to hook me up with it said the body was sold some time ago. I am going to attempt to call the store tomorrow just to make sure the guy who helped him knew what he was talking about as he told the guy helping me that it "sold" and hung up on him. Hopefully the paisley body is still there and I will be one step closer to putting together a custom Sambora for myself. I know I won't be able to afford the prices the sambora strat are fetching now a days so I guess putting one together myself is the next best option.

Yeah we all are stuck living withing our means. There are so many things I want and can not afford. Speaking of paisleys..I have always wanted a vintage paisley strat. Problem is, last time i saw a REAL one..was like 15 years ago and even at the asking price then, would be 10 times what I could afford now.

So, I do without. The good news for me is if i chose to build my own..I can find reissues that are within my means. But since you are trying to piece together a black one..which is only Sambora, and a star neck, which is only Sambora...you have much slimmer pickings.

My only advice which I myself usually never heed, is to scrimp and save..and keep your eyes open. Eventually one will come up for sale again, and cash is king..trust me. You may get a better deal then you would think now.

Ebaysux,

Yea I know its going to be a pain in the @ $ $ for me but I have seen a few people pull it off and I have seen 5-7 sambora usa necks get sold one ebay in the past year. 2 of which were recent and both I lossed out on. I am hoping to pick up a used one for a decent price. Maybe I will find someone who doesn't like the neck shape or the "silly" stars but likes the guitar body and electronics so he/she decides to sell the neck and get one that better suits them. Long shot it is, but hopefully some luck will be on my side. I have a really cool Sambora custom idea in mind if I can get 2-3 sambora usa necks....but time will tell.

It's a waiting game. what I notice.is prices fluctuate. I watch ebay like a hawk since i do build my own axes.

If I want lets say a 50's reissue neck...I notice 7 will sell for close to $300..but one or two will sell for $200. So what i do is bid just under $200.00 and whatever happens, happens.

It is tougher when you are looking for a neck that collectors realize the value of, and is rare, and is cool looking enough that someone would want even if they do not know or care who Richie Sambora is..but regardless..once in a while a good deal slips by everyone because a seller does not realize what they have..and that is when cash can close the deal.

I think i told you of the 72 strat body, neck and plate that were on ebay a couple of years ago starting bid $400.00? I contacted the guy since I noticed he lived close to me and offered him the $400.00 cash if he pulled the auction. And he did. The neck, body and plate were worth well over $1000.00, but he was using the body has a candle holder. So because I had the cash and acted quickly, i got the deal of a lifetime.

Actually, I can punch myself in the face for how bad I epically failed today I was watching a 70's ash (not swamp ash, the real deal) body for 6 days. It needed some work..but these 70's bodies can go for over 7-8 hundred or more..easy.

When I left for work this morning..there was only one bidder after 6 days..it was at 80 dollars. So I said to myself "self???, place a $200.00 bid and then go to work, whatever happens, happens"..but NO.....I had to be an idiot and think i will bid on it last minute.

So I get home today..and realized I missed the end of the auction by an hour (got stuck in frigging LA traffic).

The body sold for under $130.00.I can not kick myself in the face any harder..those kind of deals for 70's ash bodies are becoming more rare then comet sitings. Would I have gotten it for the bid? who knows? All I know is someone was willing to pay almost 130 for it..and I would have been happy to get it for 200.

Ebaysux,

That does suck! If i see one for sale I will keep you informed. As for me, I will be playing the waiting game. Sometimes patience does payoff.

No prob, I just though that one was a good price. I can kick myself in the face AGAIN..missed another amazing deal because I got home too late to bid and the auction ended. When will I learn?

I think what it is , is that i don't really want to spend the money..even if it is a once in a lifetime deal..so I am sabotaging myself subconsciously. It was a mid 80's Japan body and neck..62 reissue. needed work but BOTH went combined for a little over $100. Oh the agony. It even had pups. I could have put these thing together and with another 100 bucks would of had an easy 500-700 ax..and I might have just kept it for myself.

But now again..I sit here in deep regret. I guess you could call it "non bidders remorse"..lol

Actually this is the 3rd time i snoozed away a good deal this week. There was another 70s ash..a reissue but still what I want. It was listed for 6 days at $125 BIN free ship. I missed it because I procrastinated even though this is the best price ever..period.. for that body.

But the seller relisted..I was all excited..until I saw what he is asking now... $525.00.

See what happens when you snooze?
