Hard to tell by what little I know about these guitars. Other then the tuners..it looks pretty much identical to the others I have seen. It is from 1997 so not to unreasonable the tuners would be replaced..but this dude on ebay is asking top dollar (like $4,200) so I would be curious.

The ad claims it was only played a few times at home..so if you were interested in this guitar i would ask him why it does not have the perloids. If that one is a fake someone really did a good job. The sellers rating is 100% so that is a good sign. If you read his comments it does appear this seller has sold quite a few expensive guitars so i highly doubt he is a fraud.

Bottom line..I feel that guitar is legit over 90%.

Yea to me it looks legit....but Im not so sure the later paisley strats came with chrome tuners. Maybe they did though? Running variation?

Anything is possible. Who knows? One could have broke during shipping so the whole set was changed...one could have been damaged at the music store and they were all changed...an owner didn't like them and wanted chrome and traded/sold the pearls?? Could be dozens of reasons.

But overall it seems like the real deal to me. I would think the price should be reduced unless Fender produced some originals without the pearls...problem is no one could really verify this and it being a Japan makes it even more difficult to verify. If the only thing wrong is the tuner knobs, then the only decision is based on if the price is fair...do these normally go for so much?

Good point! As for them going for that price....I'd say its kinda high. I just lost out today on a paisley strat from spain that sold for $2000 + change. Always next time I suppose

Yeah the $2000.00 range seems more realistic. But you know...things are worth whatever someone is willing to pay. I have a feeling that guy on eBay will get his price. But that does not mean another won't show up more reasonable..maybe one that has some wear, this one on ebay is nearly mint I believe.

That is so true! Everything is only worth whatever someone else is willing to pay. I wish I had won the paisley auction but I didn't so can't complain over petty things. I know that one on ebay now for $4000+, its not in my price range and over priced to me but to each his own. We all have the right to ask w/e amount for the guitars we own. I think he'll get that amount...it is a kinda rare guitar....but not rare enough for me to shell out that kind of cash.

I know. If I had 4 grand fun money to blow on a guitar, I would probably buy a $3500.00 car, and a $500.00 guitar.

You need a new car or something? I'd rather walk and have a nice new guitar!

Na, I am lucky though and have a newer car paid off( 5 years but I did it!) and have some cash to spend. I have some debt as well but have a few guitars up for sale and hope to sell soon.

I cant blame you I am obsessed with guitars!! If I was wealthy enough I'd own every guitar I want. I already have over 10 and still adding. I plan to part with a few soon though. I need some cash for other things and want to go back to college and finish my degree in music and political science.

I have 7 or 8 at last count..most are in pieces. I am considering selling a few once completed to put towards a new car..but if any come out too nice i won't be able to part with it. That is the problem when you want to make money selling things you love..you don't actually want to sell them and find any reason not to.

I hear you on that. I havea few guitars like my Breedlove Northwest, my Tacoma ekk19ce all koa acoustic/electric, my USA Gothic Les paul from 2001 that I bought here in ny 2 days before Sept 11th, 2001 , and a warmoth hurricane(birdseye and flame maple neck). I'm having a hard time letting them go but I need to sell a few of them at least. Stinks!!

Not to change the thread.. but what do you guys think about this custom? I got offered a used one for about $775 shipped.

I know I was finding out a price on a new one from the dealer and he said it comes in white, sunburst, or black.

The last pic shows some of their other nice necks made. I just emailed the dealer asking if I could buy just a neck instead or a neck on top of a whole guitar and if I could get the flame maple as seen on the necks in the last pic, with the pearloid star inlays. If he agrees I think I am jumping on it. ALot of the reviews on these custom handmade guitars in thailand are all positive. Even the pickups are boasted about by owners of these guitars. They are like the custom shop of the asian world.

Okay..here is my opinion. It is not a Fender. However, I would need to feel it...play it..hear it etc to even begin to give a fair evaluation.

The specs need to be given...IE:..Who makes the pick ups? What model are they?..is the body a solid or capped? what type of bridge is it..vintage trem or a piece of crap? What is the body made from? Could be basswood or Agathis for all we know with a cap.

As far as the neck....I am tossed. The quality from the pics appears decent..but I have a few notes....

1) The headstock appears to be a foto flame or similar. I would want to know what it is for sure before purchasing. Is it a genuine flame maple or a veneer? Or some kind of "faux" finish?

2) The star inlays are not straight as opposed to a real Sambora neck..but it still is a sexy neck..for the right price I would consider buying one myself if I was given the specs.

Which leads to my next questions. Do you know the specs of this neck and how much do they want for it? For the right price I would consider one...I would probably never buy the whole guitar, but the star inlay neck may be the closet thing to a genuine Sambora that I will be able to afford in my lifetime...or at least in the very near future.

I also notice the star neck on the guitar has a standard nut...but the neck alone appears to be cut for a FR locking. I would want for myself the neck with a standard nut, personally I would rather shove hot pokers into my eyes then deal with an FR. Actually if i had my way..most Strats would be string through hardtails and not trem.

I would have to take down the finish and re shape the headstock...I would not do this in any attempt to "fool" anyone..but only because they did leave enough "meat" to form it into a fender style, which is a must have for me. This would be for my personal stock..not resale.

I did notice..on the two last necks on the last pic...the flame on the fret board is identical..which leads me to believe these are fake finishes. That is all well and good because I would prefer raw maple...but I am curious what it would cost to just buy a raw maple, star inlay, standard nut with the dark truss rod headstock plug. No faux flame on the fret board or head stock.

That would be the one for me if it was under $200.00. I would buy one tomorrow.

ebaysux, From what I gather and got info about Atlas guitars is they are a handmade guitar company that caters more towards custom shop guitars. The material and craftsmanship is suppose to be top notch. They are better known for their PRS copies and hollow body's that are all hand crafted from a few elite craftsman located in thailand. Apparently they produce their own pickups as well. They hand wound them as well.

As for the necks....did you mean since the grain pattern is the same as the fretboard its not a foto flame effect? I think if the grain pattern is the same it means its not a foto flame.

I did get some of the details in the email which I will post when I get home later on tonight. If my memory serves me the neck is suppose to be solid maple/flam maple depending on what you order, with genuine mother of pearl inlays. As for the nut type you can get, I believe they use bone nut but I am going to see about getting an RS Roller nut as I think those nuts stay in tune the best.
