I am lloking at adding a second Strat to go with my custom shop and I am looking at the hwy 1. I did have one before and i love the thin finish on the bodies. I am looking at buying a blonde model off of Ebay and the guy says it is ash. Has the hwy 1 even been made in ash? I thought they were only alder. Thanks.

Yep alder only.

However, the Hwy 1 Texas Tele is ash.

Thanks for the reply, that is what I thought. This guy is saying it is an "ash upgrade", never heard of that option on that guitar. I am not saying he is not telling the truth but I am unaware of it.

The seller must be confused. There never was an ash upgrade option for Hiwy 1's like there is for American Series/Standards and Deluxes.

There have been limited edition Hwy 1 Strats over the years in special colors like surf green or 2-tone sunburst with single ply pickguard, etc. But they all used the same alder body as the regular Hwy 1's. Is the seller jacking up the price of his Hwy 1 because of the "ash" claim? If it's just the plain ol' Honey Blonde finish and not some special edition finish, then he should price it accordingly.
Do you have a link to the ebay sale?

Here is the link to the ad. It seems to be priced similar to other hwy 1's on Ebay so I am not sure if he is just unaware or he is trying to jack up the price, though the ones I have seen have all been new around this price.

There have been Factory Special Runs of Highway Ones ... so some could have been made of Ash ... I don't know of any for sure, however.

When it comes to Fender, almost anything is possible ... like John Mayer's Black1's non-flamed, flamey maple neck.

Just from looking at his *other* auctions, I'm guessing that this is an aftermarket body.
