Since I will be changing over a pickup when it arrives,

I'm considering shielding the inside of the body in either Aluminium foil or copper sheet? I heard Aluminium needs to be 1 sheet as multiple sheets create capacitance beween the layers

should I change what is under the pickup guard?

thanks,

Stephen

Be sure to ground whatever shielding you install to the back of one of the control pots or the trem claw.

I always install Fender's full-size aluminum pickguard shield (Fender P/N 0019699000) beneath the pickguard.

Best of luck, HTH

The GuitarNuts website has some detailed guides on shielding a Strat: http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/shielding/shield3.php

Looks great, but I'd be concerned about trying to fit something 5 mil thick under your existing pickguard. That's pretty thick. You could have difficulty with screw lengths, retainer nuts on pots etc. Probably only useful if you replace the pickguard with it altogether.
http://www.stewmac.com/ have copper shielding kits, paint, tape you can fit yourself, that work. It's not expensive. Local electronics shops would have something the same.
