I removed the plastic covering on the pick guard of my new Strat and it was a real disaster. It did not come off too easily. Lots of glue remained that took me a long time to remove from the pick guard. I ended up replacing the pick guard with a new Fender pearl white pick guard. I think the candy cola color with a pearl white pick guard looks 100% better.

I wasn't aware that they used glue to afix the plastic-that's a new one on me-never seen it.

It's more like an adhesive residue that gets left if the plastic cover has been on the pickguard too long. It happened to me with a Custom Shop '56 NOS Strat that had been in a locked display case for four years. It took Goo Gone, Q-Tips and a lot of patience to remove the crud but I did get a great deal on the guitar. That made the experience much less annoying. :)

Yeah the plastic should come off easily with no residue unless it was left on for a very long time. First thing I do with a new guitar (after I set it up and make sure there are no issues and I don't need to return it) is to take that annoying plastic off. Get that plastic off ASAP. Some people leave the plastic on because Fender puts special little stickers and even American flags in MIA guitars. Well take the plastic off, but cut out the stickers you want to keep for prosperity and put them in your case or a drawer somewhere. Besides no one would dare go onstage with plastic or factory stickers still on a guitar. :P

Yeah! Same thing happen to me on my MIM Roadhouse Strat. I'm still trying to get the gooh off. May be the guitar went from extreme heat to cold weather.......
