I talked with my friend who runs the local shop. The Blacktop strat has 2 Fender Hot Alnico Humbuckers. I believe the Jazz Master and the Blacktop Bass series instruments might have Duncan Designed pickups. I still want to fiddle around with one and make it part of my collection :D

Ah thanks for clearing that up! I still kinda want one...$50 less than a standard, sweet looking, spaghetti logo, easy-to-change knobs...and if the pickups are lame I can always get a 50's style 3 way switch and wire my 57 classics into a Strat! Can't wait to play one.

I ended up picking one up this weekend. It's the only one in our area :D I think I found my new favorite player! The fit and finish rivals my MIA strats, and the feel is so smooth. The 5 way switching on this guitar makes it a monster! I'm definitely glad I was able to pick this one up, I even dig the knobs

And yet Fender Australia is the only official place that has these on their website.

*Still* not on the Fender.com USA site, even though a lot of stores have them now.

I was at gc this morning and they got in a nice shipment of new stuff, was looking for black/ black with maple, they only had rosewood. They felt great, comfortable neck, BUT, man that's alot of clear on those necks, kinda sticky. Didn't get to play it as they were just pulling them out of the boxes, all styles and colors.

Yeah all of the pictures I've seen of the maple necks make them look REALLY glossy and most likely pretty sticky. I love the feel of mine, gloss finish but now too tacky. I needed another rosewood strat anyways ;) My '97 Plus was feeling singled out by the other two maple strats, LOL!

I like the looks of these guitars. What's the country of origin. For the price I know they're not MIA.

Definitely MIM. The "Made in Mexico" decal is on the back of the headstock (like on the 2010 Standard Strats, etc.).

This guitar is now available with a Floyd Rose tremolo except the humbuckers are open-coil without the chrome pickup covers. Available with a rosewood neck option only, in two stealthy finishes: Titanium Silver and Black.

I haven't test driven a Black Top yet, but I love the look of the Sonic Blue/Maple fretboard.

Very cool twist on the Strat with the silver buckers & black amp knobs.

If they feel good & play nice, I'll probably buy one. One concern would be the quality of pickups in such a low priced guitar. I'll have to hear them before I decide.
