hey trem,

if none of that works, and it gets under your skin, ill take it off your hands.
i mean, what are friends for..

those close up photos, made me admire that strat more, it looks like a thin skin, the grain of the wood comes out nicely.
hope you solve that issue. still looks great though.
that would have bothered me too...

Hi Orville. Or to put it another way: over and over again I guess we say the same thing.

Again, over and over we say things that are the same. That's my guess.

Nuttin' new under the sun.

Hey - rosewood or maple? :D

Ceri and Andy,

I have mulled over the necessity of a repair job and decided against it. I think I'd rather have the guitar with the "battle scars". I have absolutely no doubt in your respective abilities, but at the end of the day this is just an aesthetic blemish which does no detract from the playability of the guitar. I guess I was a bit panicky and hasty in calling it a "disaster". In a way it makes the instrument just a bit more unique and personal...

I am still up for a beer though, whenever you guys want to meet :D.
I am supposed to be training for the Windsor half marathon at the weekend but a nice break (either Sat or Sun) talking about guitars will go a long way towards building my mental fitness!

Ceri, are you still on the same email address you used last year?

Thank you gentlemen for taking interest in this matter. If nothing else it will hopefully alert people to not put their leather straps on top of their nitro finished guitars...

Well your last line says it,maybe somebody read this and it stopped them from getting the same problem.
I remember a certain Les Paul many years ago that was made from centuries old trees blown down at an historic location here in Tennessee,it was in a local music store hanging on a cheap rubber covered hanger, there were some serious marks on the back of the neck from the reaction to the rubber....you should have seen the look on the store owner's face.
We live and learn.

Hi TA: I think it is a good choice. If you can live with it then that's the best way.

Bit painful though, isn't it? You are a gentleman who really looks after his guitars well, I happen to remember (lacquer accidents aside). I bet you've got a very nice Les Paul, by the way! :D

Always ready for a beer! Yes, it's the same email, and I have Andy's address too, if he wants to come and play. And anyone else!

To my own amazement I'm running better now than any time in the last 25 years. Don't think I'm quite ready for a half-marathon though. Kudos to you: best of luck with it! 8)

See you - C

Well, since you asked... here it is:

I hope it's not considered heresy to post this on the Fender forums... 8)

I'll drop you a mail one of these days with the view to hook up for a beer!
Cheers

It isn't! :D

Man, I love the ones with the plain timber tops. Such a relief from all that flame maple! That's not a Pete Townshend Sig model is it by any chance, with the extra DiMarzio in the middle? ...Though if it was a PT perhaps it would have some extra controls too.

Fabulous, anyhow. I always prefer a bound headstock on a Les Paul! 8)

You are right in that the middle is a Super Distortion - good eye!
But it's not a PT Sig.

The official model is Custom Classic and it was part of Gibson's "guitar of the week" programme. It's basically an Ace Frehely LP without the silly lightning bolts and decals. I then changed the neck and bridge Super Distortion pups for Bare Knuckles - Black Dog at bridge and Mule at neck, leaving one Super Distortion in the middle.

And yes, the plain top was the only one I was after. I am probably one of the few who does not like the flame tops.

Thanks, man.

Look where this thread took us - from a blemished Fender top to a Gibson Les Paul...
